Thanks to @Yamahana i was able to get two sets of vintage buttons. Unfortunately, they didn't match FL's brown pony Shinki. But since they're made of tagua nut (also know as vegetable ivory) they're easy to dye, so I bought some fibre reactive dye and let them cook for an hour. They came out perfectly.

These are cool!
I also bought vintage buttons for my FL, although right now i am starting to lose hope i will ever see them on a jacket...

I have no idea, i think they are made from bakelite or some other old school plastic, they are supposed to be from the 30s.
Greg did a strength test, stitched one and pulled on it untill it broke and he thinks they are still strong enough to be used.
Clue us in on your design please.

Calling all Badalassi jacket owners! What’s the thickness of your Badalassi leather? Is it thicker than your heaviest CXL. Please, Thanks!

Certainly midweight, I'd say probably 2.5-3oz for the Aero Badalassi and it's not as thick/heavy as my 3.5oz JL CXL or 4oz Aero CXL.
Thank you!
That’s the advantage of getting it through the maker. I got myself some Baddy Minerva Box leather just yesterday and they were surprisingly thick. I was expecting 1.8 mm but it’s more like 2.3mm. The danger of purchasing leather myself. Should’ve asked for it to be split into thinner weight before. Lesson learned.

Super nice! I heard that Aero didn't use Badalassi before because it was too thick so they had it reworked and now it's a popular choice.
Where is this bad boy bound? I'm sure it is easy for makers to get this skived to the desired thickness.

Asking all high end jacket guys here:
Would you pay for a Field Leathers jacket at the same prices you would pay for a Himel, LW, or Japanese brands?

I'd pay more - Or rather, I'd give whatever Himel or LW or any Japanese brand are asking only to Field Leathers. Greg makes a better jacket in a nicer leather & will customize it to a much greater degree. What I said before; If RMC costs $3000 right now, Greg ought to be selling his jackets for $6K.

From what I have seen, Field leathers has not reached maturity yet, he is still developing his style. Based on that I wouldn't pay the same I would a maker who has reached maturity.

That being said, I think Himel is not worth what he's asking for, his workmanship is inferior to Field Leathers, but he is good at geeting the fit right.

Japanese brands vary a lot in pricing and performance, which ones are you thinking about?

LW, I own quite a few, so...

If you can get the fit right, I think Field leathers is a great option, at a good price. I am hoping my order works out.

For me it works the other way around: would I pay twice as much for a FW or what have you? No.

On the other hand, I don't think Greg's current business model is sustainable. Not at his current pricing. There goes a lot of work into making all those custom patterns. Combined with the expensive materials and the slow construction methods, I have a hard time imagining £1k covers his costs let alone earn him a healthy profit.

If I were him I'd offer 5 or 6 basic models in standard sizes for about £1100 and ask £1500 for his fully customized jackets.

Sorry I meant the made in Japan jackets that would retail between 2 to 3 grand, like FW La Brea, or RMC buco repros.
You do have a very nice selection sir, well done!
Cant wait to see your FL!

The problem with these brands is getting the jacket that fits, I haven't been able to get a good fit in a RMC yet, but some of the freewheeler models worked. I do want another freewheeler, just need find a model that fits well, we will see when next I can be in Japan :)

Thanks, this forum is a great source of info and inspiration, wouldn't have been so lucky otherwise :D

Wicked Bates set arrived at my door today, first thing I notice as I moved it around is some off white material getting on my hands. Upon setting it down, I see there are numerous spots like this throughout the jacket. Any friction on these spots results in the off-white leather rubbing off, though not in chunks or anything like that.

I'm curious - is this cracking, or could it be paint / dye flaking off? When you move your hand over it, you get a light dusting of the stuff. Which...is not really what I associate with cracking, but its not really good either way. I had a defective Schott 141 awhile ago where the top layer of the leather was doing the same thing at some sections. Here, it's practically all over the jacket. Not really sure what to make of it, although its a bummer regardless. The leather doesn't have any deep gouges or apparent damage apart from this, but it's all over the jacket.

Looks like the paint is coming off. I recently bought a pale yellow Shields CR, and man, is the paint thick on it. It is not coming off, but it is thick, I could tell by the fact that hot Pecards had great trouble penetrating it. And the thicker the paint the easier it may come off in chunks.
