I have these same plastic zippers on both my Vanson Swedish riders and honestly they do the job. One of the two jackets was worn a lot by the previous owner and is pretty beat up, but all zippers are still 100% ok and still have all their teeth.
In use i am never more worried about them than i am about metal zippers.
I understand the want for metal zippers, but i would not let it stop me from buying a jacket i really wanted if it had plastic zippers. At least when talking about Vanson plastic zippers...

Will that Cal require much rehab? When I see something like this, and a jacket I have coming in, I can’t help but remember the nasty, moldy smells I’ve experienced cleaning out some old places. Doing things like that has sort of ruined me for vintage items.

When I receive a jacket with odors and I want to keep it for whatever reason, I give the jacket a tub bath and long soak using a bit of a soft detergent and then add the following:

Any mold, odors, whatever is gone. I do let the jacket soak for a long time and flush out the water at least once. But this stuff is really good. Close to magic.

Here is an idea— I’ll identify as your grandson, you buy the jacket and then send it my way. In return, I’m good for a FaceTime call every Xmas. A less than stellar grandson, but family nonetheless. Win-win.

A confused jacket or smart design? Some cross zip style with a vertical zipper. And zip off sleeves. $375 starting bid and $500 BIN. Seems pricey but it’s hardly worn and something different.

In all seriousness, anyone watching this heavy early CHP jacket that can go with the fit should hit the BIN or at least submit an offer. You will be hard press to find a better deal on the internet. If it were larger the heavy hitter here would have snapped it up a long time ago
The belt along is worst half the buy in
