Hat makers usually just use their hands. No equipment is required. Did you watch the video of Michael Gannon shaping one of his hats? Back in the day, the retailers received their hats open crown and sometimes would shape them (no tools or equipment: just hands) for their displays.

Panama hats are an exception. Toquilla straw doesn’t shape like felt and Panama hats require the crown shape to be molded into the block.

No skin off my back if you want the crease to be blocked in. If the felt in your hat is of decent quality it will require you to reshape it from time to time anyway. I can’t go a whole day without bumping my hats into something and unless it’s a stiff western hat the crown and/or brim will need some shaping daily.

Oh, I see. I notice a lot of the member use wear their hats in the rain and do rigorous work with their hats causing them to wear out.

I typically pamper my hats, I hope it doesn’t go out of shape too easily.

Hats are a practical accessory and serve functions other than just fashion. Back in the day, men would regularly get a new hat and then consign the old hat to a rough use like yard work etc. Wearing them, including in foul weather, is using them for their intended use and is not abusing them. If you wear yours a lot it will show it’s age and acquire some personality. It will eventually wear out and need refurbishment or replacement. You wouldn’t expect to wear the same pair of shoes for the rest of your life, right? I’m not going to run a chainsaw wearing a spectacular vintage hat, but that’s just me. I have more rugged hats for those uses.

You will bump your hat on your car’s door fame, a tree limb, or something. The better quality dress felt will become distorted, but it’s also easy to fix. The qualities that make the best felt also mean it’s easily distorted but also easily re-shaped.

Look at old movies and you will see that the brims and crowns have an organic lived-in look. This is just the nature of the best hats. You can get a fedora made from western weight felt that will take more abuse without becoming distorted, and they can come with hard molded crowns and brims.

Agnoulita Boxer. 4 1/2" crown (4 1/4 at pinch), 2 3/8" brim. Army felt color, that is what I ordered anyway, I may try to ask if that is what this actually is. This is much more brown than I expected. Maybe it is a brown olive. Forgot to specify which Army I guess :) Thought it was going to be a green color. Pecan ribbon, 1". The last photo is with it above my new winchester beaver in whiskey from Wolfbrae. Until I put them side by side I thought they were almost the same color. The Agnoulita as you can see has more yellow and looks like photos of older versions of whiskey felts I have seen. It makes the winchester whiskey look pecan or almost a natural color next to it. As I said thought I was getting a drab green hat with brown ribbons. I do find the color pleasing, and it is a nice hat. The crown is soft and the brim is a little stiff but snaps fine. I think it would take steam to shape the crown or especially the brim differently. I will probably leave it as shaped, although I do deepen the side dents on most hats. The best part is I got it with Amazon points. It just showed up today, about 2 weeks earlier than the delivery window listed when I purchased it.

Cool man, does this have a chemical scent? I can recall someone saying that when they first got the hat on this thread.

Did not notice anything like that with mine. They are shipped from Greece so the box might pick up a scent depending of the other cargo I suppose.

Hey! I was wondering if any of you could speak about Agnoulita hats quality and durability... I was planing to order a hat from them, the thing is that I came across a nice fur felt stetson hat in a store in Madrid... if you had to choose between a stetson fur felt and a Agnoulita fur felt... what would you do? I´m looking for a hat with strong felt, maybe not like a pure western hat but not like normal fedora, Agnoulita Hats have this kind of felt? Did any of you ordered an open crown hat fron them?

Hopefully DeadlyHandsome will chime in....he has ordered a number of hats from Agnoulita. He has posted reviews in this thread a number of times you might want to peruse the thread.....multiple reviews from a number of Loungers.....positive and critical.

Maybe because of the color combination.
I do like the beaver felt.
I like the cinnamon ribbon and the bound brim matching the felt.
I'll be placing an order for one soon.
So many hats, colors and variations.
Driving me bunkers!!
So far, keep on going back to that one.
I am considering 25/8" brim, instead of the 23/4"
Also 2" hatband instead of thr 11/2"
May go for the tobacco sweatband and golden taupe liner?
Probably will change my mind another dozen times! Lol

Go to the Agnoulita website.
Click on menu and you'll see beaver felt.
Also, go to collections and scroll down to beaver felt.
There are some nice hats made with the beaver felt
I believe they are 80% beaver the bancroft hare and rabbit.
