Please forgive the perhaps slightly off-topic question, but does anyone have experience of buying from SpeedwaySendai.com with particular reference to them being happy to mark down the value of purchases for the customers customs/import duty charges etc?

I would not recommend much. The problem is insurance, based on the value. Too much risk when this much value is on the line in my humble opinion. And then there is tax fraud for the seller... They can lose their ability to ship to your country with the carrier they used, or so I understand.

Just too much risk for a dealer compared to a private seller. My two cents.

Just as an FYI, I received my Mulholland in size 44 the other week.

I was super excited to receive this jacket especially since I had read so many great reviews here. The jacket is indeed beautiful but unfortunately, the sleeves were are good 1 1/2” too short! I asked if they had any more 44’s in stock and would they please measure them to see if perhaps this one was an anomaly. Unfortunately I was told that all the 44’s they had were the same.

Lesson learned, have the actual jacket measurements confirmed before shipping.

The shop was super understanding of the situation and they allowed me to return the jacket for refund. Although it did cost me a fair bit in shipping, I guess I’m glad I had the opportunity to try one and see what all the fuss is about.

I’m bummed out that it didn’t work out, but I’m moving on from it.

This is very good advice. I am still perplexed that the latest edition of the Mulholland has such short sleeves.

Did you at least take a few fitpics? :)

Same here my friend.

There was one for sale recently here and I believe it too had relatively short sleeves, ( if I remember correctly).

I suppose I could’ve lived with shorter sleeves but honestly, they weren’t even close to the sizes I’ve seen on web sites, or the length I’d like them to be.

I did. Thanks for making me feel more depressed lol. The jacket fit me perfectly otherwise , IMHO.

I fully agree with you that this is not a good fit. I could live with the sleeve length, but that's just personal preference. What I couldn't live with is the huge neck hole plus bottom hem overhang. What you need is a size 42L which probably doesn't exist.

I had the same problem with this ELMC Roadstar (bottom hem overhang).

For reference, this is how I think the Mulholland should fit. Note the neck hole and bottom hem.

Too bad it didn't work out for you and your build. It does look loose on the waist and bottom hem and the neck hole does looks a little too large. Also unfortunate about the hit on the return shipping but glad you were able to get a refund. The sleeves are okay looking there but that will crease and shorten Significantly since it's a waxy shinki. May I recommend just to get one made to spec instead?

1st photo is when I first got my jacket (not new though). 2nd photos is after a few months of wear and submerging the sleeves in water

I think you are absolutely right on the neck-hole.

Re hem: I never agreed with you over the ELMC Roadstar. It did look absolutely Rock-n-Roll on you!!

The Mulholland has adjustment straps that are actually funcitonal. I needed to pull them in a little bit (quite an effort) and it massively helped the overall impression.

The ELMC waist adjusters are the best looking adjusters ever made. They also won the price for least functional adjusters ever made.

If the Roadstar's adjusters were functional like the ones on the Mulholland, it would have been an instant buy.

Thanks brother. Yes I’m going back to the drawing board. If there’s any good news, it’s that it’s super hot weather here, so jackets don’t get worn.
It does mean however that I’ve got to get the next one in the works for fall.

Fall is right around the corner too, real bummer it didn't work out. i think RmC/FCL and other Japanese makers make jackets like the Mulholland but the fit issue is always there and the hassle of returning items too. Like for like copy would be with FL but the wait time as we all know is quite long. Best bet is maybe modify some Thedi patterns to make it look similar to a Mulholland.

I already knew it was going to fit well but so stoked to finally have this in black vintage. Now for the break in. This is a heavily waxed shinki with light brown core. The hide is very smooth grained unlike my brown Mulholland that has very pronounced grains. Very different to the full aniline and black teacore shinki I have from FL.

Such a shame it didn´t work out! Fortunately, for me the size 44 is ok. It could be a bit smaller all around, but no way I´d fit into a 42. Mine looks best layered with a sweater.

I think we are very similar in size Tom and I’m happy to hear yours worked out for! I guess some patterns work for some and not for others, even with similar body measurements.
