Interesting! Curious what you know about Sugar Cane leather jackets and their origin? Is your Toyo jacket on the same level in terms of quality, leather, build as a RM in your opinion?
Just so happens that the Toyo jacket I own is on the same pattern as a Harley repro by RM.
Here is the Toyo jacket I posted
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/thr...ng-and-how-many-potential-ones.89562/page-285
Here is the RM
http://vintageleatherhorse.info/rea...age-jkt-horse-biker-riders-leather-jacket.php
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v677078683
Both are almost the same save that RM uses a different type of talon repro and a softer leather that is getting close to shiniki but still have a thicker coat than shiniki. The Toyo has a fuller cut all around.
Here is a link to an old RM catalogue which states that BR was produced by RM at the time.
https://ameblo.jp/arabs/image-11929097997-13075650446.html
Story is that the founder and previous owner of RM has a very close relationship with Toyo and is the reason for the forming of BR.
Found the relevant story that BR was launched by Toyo in collaboration with the then owner of RM in 1993.
https://www.style-eco.com/brand_colum/buzzricksons/5985.html
https://www.fashion-press.net/brands/2621
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/東洋エンタープライズ
So it could be that both the Toyo and RM products came from the same factory back at the time.
It also says Toyo started selling souvenir jackets then jeans. RM collaborated with Toyo to make cloth flight jackets under the BR label while leather jackets were made under the RM label.

Is the any link between Y2Leathers and Fine Creek Leathers (formerly High Large Leathers; I think, they might have had even another name before HLL)?
They both seem to have started with the denim jackets (types 1, 2 and 3) in horse hide. Perhaps FCL/HLL was the first. Not sure.

Also, are the type 1, etc. leather jackets comparable between Y2 and FCL?
The pictures of the well worn black Richmond FCL look amazing.
I have a HLL Lynchburg Lee type 1 in natural tan, that I'm working on. It has darkened a little bit, but hopefully will darken quite a bit more.

I am not aware of any link between Y'2 and FCL. I think HLL split up then former partner or craftsman started FCL but I am not sure.

Informative post. So where Y'2 sources the horsehide leather from? Also who makes the leather jackets for FWs?
Sorry for super late reply. When I was in the process of getting my Y2 leather jacket order I asked them a few things that I really wanted to know, some were design aspects others were the hides.

They said that the hides that they use are Japanese hides from the same area that shinki is made. So different manufacturer but same general area.

As for me an owner of a Y2 leather jacket and having had a decent amount of leather jackets come through my hands I would say that fit comes down to be the biggest thing for me.

When I put on my Y2 leather jacket it felt like home. The Aero leather jackets felt to lose and did not flatter my body shape. The schott was similar. I have looked at some other brand but was not able to find my size to try on so can't say much about them.

My biggest disappointment with the Y2 leather jacket is the 2 piece back. One side on the bottom is more wrinkled than the other side which bugs me. And sadly they did not want to do a one piece back for me even though I was offering to pay an acceptable amount upwards of 300$ for that single change.

But so far after one season of wearing it I am still just as in love with it as the first day I tried it on in the middle of summer 1 year ago

I just acquired a Y'2 type 2 indigo jacket. Fits so very well and the leather feels amazing. Soft and instantly wearable. I am looking forward to comparing it to the Richmond Fine Creek I have on the way.

How's the color on that one? Different pics really give an array of colors

Man, the indigo is magnificent. It is hard for the camera to capture.
A very nice dark blue indigo. I was extremely impressed and pleased when I received it. Better looking than any photos depict, especially the color.

Ever since seeing the High Large Leathers type 1 and type 2 jackets a few years ago, I've been fascinated by them.
Especially those that have been worn tight and showed amazing wear.
Like the Richmond from HLL's successor Fine Creek Leathers, that has been worn by this guy.

In this video he's explaining sizing.
To wear it like him he's wearing just a thin TShirt or henley underneath and he is quite slim.

Currently the Fine Creek Leather Richmond, etc. seem to be sold out everywhere.
If you order in Japan at retailers it will arrive next year between April and September.

But Y2 Leathers offers similar jackets.
The Eco horse is a relatively thick leather- 1.8mm-2mm.
But they also offer lighter leather ones.

This year, they've offered a special one with a thickness of ca. 1mm.
It's called Vintage Horse Light.

While the black jackets normally have silver buttons, this one has black ones.
I wasn't so sure about that at first. I quite like the contrast of the buttons with the leather with silver or even copper or brass buttons.
But in real life I like the buttons very much.

Some of Y2's jackets are chashin/teacore, some are dyed through.
This one is chashin, so brown under the black.

It's priced relatively low compared to many other offers at around JPY 100,000.
There are still some available in sizes from 38 to 44, I've seen.
It comes with a nice persimmon horse hide wallet/pouch.

I have a High Large Leather in 44, which apparently fits similarly to FCL.
The 44 fits me well, not too big, not tight.

I got this one in 42 because I wanted to wear it tighter and I had heard that Y2 fits a bit bigger.
It does indeed fit a little bigger, but not much, but I can wear it. And I plan to drop a few kilos :D
It's quite snug now. With wear it will become a bit more relaxed, I think.

It quite shiny, which I think is typical for these jackets.

I'm not sure about how the leather had been tanned.

If you're interested in these jackets, this might be an option for you.
I quite like it.

It seems there's only one dealer in Tokyo (Kanokan in Ueno) for Y'2. I could be wrong-- I hope I'm wrong. Anyone know other stores that carry Y'2 in Tokyo?

Eco Horse
Pros - Nice olive color, aniline, not pigment
Cons - Way too stiff. Needs a few quarts of oil. I don't think this is the best material for jackets as is.

IMG_1315.JPG

Goatskin
Pros - Thick, feels like at least 1.4mm (3.5oz).
Cons - Goatskin has no cons, this one has a rather thick top coat though, so feel stiffer than most other goatskins.

IMG_8040.JPG

Hand dyed Horse
Pro: Thick and soft, lots of character
Cons: Too much character / variation
This and the oiled horse below are my two favorite Y2 leather leather options.

IMG_8043.JPG

Hand Oil Horse?
Pros: Thick and soft, I would rate this leather on par with any expensive Shinki/Horween/Badalassi...etc.
Cons: I find no faults with this leather, wearable CXL type leather, I'm very impressed. I have a RC jacket that has this leather too, thick soft aniline finished. But RC finishes the jacket much better than Y2.
This one is under the Dapper's brand but I assume this is OEM'ed by Y2. Its basically the same pattern block as the Eco horse jacket, just one size down and different back design.

IMG_8378.JPG

These Y2 jackets all have straight body, no visible taper and no ") (" at the waist. Size 42 is 44" around the chest and size 44 is 46" around the chest. The stiff leather doesn't work with the straight cuts as it does not drape.

Y2 jackets price range from just under ¥100,000 to over ¥200,000, so $750 to $1500. Western retailers charges more for their special custom runs, same model different leather. Used (NWT) ones from Japan can be found for less than half of original Japanese retail. It seems that on the used market, only X-zips are in demand, straight zips go for much less money, buttons even less.

Y2 jackets are not constructed like other Japanese brands such as RC/FW/RMC/TM/FCL/DH. They are put together more like Vanson jackets. This surprised me.

I was first attracted to Y2 leather because of their wide range of styles. However, their overall finished products are not what I come to expect from Japanese makers, especially in that higher ¥200,000 retail range. Jackets from US or UK brands offers the same quality as Y2 (or better) for much less money. This is not a negative review of Y2, but my initial expectations were just too high. The biggest strength of Y2 is that they put out a lot of different designs that other brands aren't doing. And their leathers (except the Eco horse) are quite nice. Their finishing/construction however is only middle of the pack. My advise for potential Y2 customers is to only go with the designs that other brands aren't doing, and no Eco Horse.

I've seen this video before or at least the same FCL guy wearing that type1 for 3 yrs, the evolution looks cool but also looks worrying since the top coat are peeling showing sueding parts on the elbow and such, but the way he wears the jacket how the sleeve binding and digging into his underarm looked very uncomfortably to create such crazy upper sleeve creases like that.

Here's fit pics of all my Y2s. All except the green one (44) is same size 42, the Deck jacket is half size bigger +1" to accommodate the pile liner. The softer the leather the better the drape. And unfortunately the Eco Horse has no drape. Which is very unfortunate for me as I was really looking forward to it based on the Double Helix jacket and I paid full price for it and it wasn't what it turned out to be. So stay away from Eco horse. The other leathers are great.

There was a goatskin version of the Eco horse jacket I have, for an awesome deal too, but I passed it on for the Eco horse. Big mistake. Don't do eco horse.

I always loved this design. Except for the A2 style button down collar maybe. So you're saying the pattern is not very refined?
pattern is straight body, which is fine with me, but the leather doesn't work. There is a goatskin version of this jacket. Which would work much better imo. But I got suckered into the eco horse.
Construction isn't very refined, not as refined as what I would expect from Japanese brands. Not bad, just my expectations were high.

seems like their design is decidedly boxy, do they have their own model to model their jackets to see how their concept of style is to be worn? perhaps it needs washing and worn to dry treatment to shrink to fit like raw denim perhaps?
