Thoroughbred 10x with a Centennial from Founders. They got this right! Perfect balance of pine and citrus. The Centennial hops taste like a combination of Chinook and Cascade. The piney bitterness of Chinook, and the aromatics of Cascde. $15 for a 15 pack, must be the best quality ale at this price!

i got a late start to HH until after thunderstorms came thru. After that the sun came out & even though it was steamy I was going from AC to AC to AC so I stayed with the Worth - Walden.

One positive to come to my state during all this Curbside business is sealed alcohol & beer to go. A packaged liquor license is no longer necessary. So I grabbed a couple more Negra Modelos to take home. Once there I changed hats to sweat up my naked Territory with out a ribbon.

Inside for the night to cool back down I'm ready for some Corryvreckan.

A couple beers from a mixed six a friend gave me to try for my birthday last week.

Victory Brotherly Love Hazy IPA with Stetson Playboy

This 6.0% hazy IPA was a bit bitter for my taste which I guess can be the case for hazy IPAs I definitely didn’t do it any favors by drinking it straight from the can but you gotta do what you gotta do. Cool can art but this one wasn’t a real Victory to me

Kentucky Vanilla Bourbon Barrel Cream Ale

Really enjoyed this one.. even right from the can. A nice mello slightly sweet flavor. Almost like a much less sweet cream soda. I think I may have to give this one another try in a frosty mug.

Good afternoon beverage and lid folks.

Yesterday afternoon and evening I enjoyed the cooler temps by sipping a Founders All Day IPA.

A Surley Supreme was my early evening choice.

i-6SxMMBL-M.jpg

This morning I had a Founders Unraveled IPA with buffalo steak and fried rice for breakfast.

This mid-afternoon I have opened a bottle of Benromach Wood Finish 2010. I poured myself a small dram. I picked up the bottle from my shopping trip to Ace Spirits. It was not an expensive bottle, around $80.00. It was the strong recommendation of the sales rep to sample this whiskey maker starting with this bottling.

i-cPPCjJh-M.jpg

From the pour the color is very striking. The wine casks contribute the color. The smell is a strong smell of dark fruit. You can smell a hint of smoke. A very full smell. This is very different from the 10 yr.

At the first sip the taste is first smoke and then quickly goes to a slightly sweet dark fruit finish. Subtle and yet creamy/sweet hints without that coating that happens in the back of the throat. The light smoke is reasuring and adds but does not dominate in any well. It does not cover any of the flavor complexity. Well done in my opinion. Spice and fruit is the finish taste for me.

I do like this whiskey. I have not added water to my first dram. That will come. I am curious as to what the whiskey will taste like when the bottle contents get below the shoulder.

Cheers, Eric -

Still with my Stetson cap. Chased down another Cedar Ridge offering. A bit soft and sweet, but very drinkable. They released a bottled in bond, 99 proof in July, but have not been able to track one down locally. May have to make a run to Iowa. View attachment 353072

Thanks for sharing. I followed your post to the Cedar Ridge Whiskey website. A proud Iowa distillery.

I have not sampled American Whiskeys, but Woodbridge Reserve, yet. I have been reading and watching info on were to start the American journey.

Thanks for sharing DD. I have not tasted this Founders offering yet. I will work on getting some to sample. Sounds delicious.

Jack - looks tasty. The Ardbeg "rabbit hole" is deep. After visiting Ace Spirits and seeing oodles of offerings I see the depth of such a distiller. I did repy to a taste notice with the suggestion of a complete distiler's offerings, like Ardbeg, I would be very interested in. I read that this has a powerful taste. Cheers.

Happy Birthday sir. I do not recall if I offered well wishes on any of the social media platforms or not. The selection of beers I think is a thoughtful gift!

New to the market & earning awards, a Straight Rye Bottled in Bond. I'm not much for a spicy Rye but I do like High West Rye. I may have to try this one. Like the name, Roaming Man.

I found one case ea of some one off Ardbeg's from 2015 & 2017 I think that did not sell out. Expensive bottlings. So far the retailer is not willing to discount to move. I'll look at my notes tomorrow.

For now I'm gearing up for NFL KC Chiefs @ San Fran 49'ers tonight. Starting early with some Alaskan Brewing's Alaskan Brown Alt
Amber Ale & my Peters Bros Shady Oak Bankers Special 7X Seventy-five. At 5.3% ABV it's very mild with a nut brown taste.

Great combination Perry! Terrific music. Who could have imagined the music horror (plane crash) that would occur in 1977? Some Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey and Skynard - I like the idea of the combo.

I have been reading that the whiskey, Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey, has won some Best Flavored awards.

Cheers, Eric -

The Bird Dog was a birthday gift from my Brothers-in-law. It has an unusual taste, but I liked it.
Never got the chance to see Skynyrd back in the day, but my college room mate had seen them in St Pete just a few days before the crash. Ronnie did say he would never make it to 30:(.

My memory was off Year wise on one but here they are. Every yr on Ardbeg Day the distillery releases a limited special bottling, & Im told they sell out in Europe & are very hard to get in the US. I have found 6 bottles of ea & a retailer waiting for a collector.

Essential trip to Ace Spirits this morning at 11:00am. They open at 11:00am.

Last evening I got to sample some Dingle Batch #1 and batch #4 with a couple of friends. They acquired the little sample bottles from whiskey groups they belong to. Batch #1 was an acceptable whiskey. IMO not worth the price it commands on the market. Batch #4 gave me shivers. It had a distinct petrol taste in the mouth - blah! This is the first whiskey that is really a turn off. I have un-opened bottles of Batch#1 and #4 from Ace Spirits. One I acquired a couple of weeks ago and one that my friend picked up on his recent shopping trip to Ace. My recommendation - never drink #4 and possibly #1 only if offered and not at market price. I am turned off at the moment and hopefully Dingle offers better in the future. I will wait. If Ace would not have offered a return I would have donated the bottles to their tasting shelf. I will not sip another drop of them.

Returns accepted! A Arberlour Casg Annamh Special Release and a Glenrothers Makers Cut were bottles that I picked up.

New bottle day coming soon to my house.

Thanks Jack. I breezed by Ardbeg when whiskey shopping today. Darn it I should have looked or at least taken a phone pic. The Ardbeg whiskey boxes are prominent and I was distracted.

The salesperson distracted me by offering me a whiskey sample. I did sample the Glenrothes Makers Cut and it is delicious. Truly a great drink. The salesperson and I each had a small sample. The sample bottle was only a 1/4 full. My recent experience is that the amount of whieky in the bottle makes a taste difference. When I open the Glenrothes I will comment. Writing this post will assist in making the taste a "longer memory."

Darn now I am thirsty for a small dram. Too much typing and thinking about the bottles on the shelf.

The original incarnation with Ronnie was before my concert going days. But I have been lucky enough to catch them a few times with Johnny.

Sipped some Four Roses Single Barrel while reading The New Yorker this evening. I was reminded that I have this whiskey after reflection on my reply earlier that I only have Woodbridge Reserve as representative of American bourbons. Wrong - this Kentucky Bourbon was hiding on my shelf in plain view.
