As I made the 65TH lap around the sun today, I wanted a hat that I knew to close to my own age w/o too much speculation. I decided on this No.1 that has a $13.98 sales sticker behind the sweat dated 1958. A couple of years after my 56 vintage but as close as I could be certain about. There was no question as to what beverage I would be enjoying on this day and night.

An early birthday surprise at the mail box yesterday. Knowing my work history with Jack Daniel’s and my affinity for the occasional JD indulgence, my other friend Jack sent me these fine glasses. Many thanks to @Hurricane Jack. Soon to be in service.

Happy Birthday BB! You chose your hat & your spirit well. Nothing goes better with a grilled steak than a smoky Islay like Lagavulin 16.

I tip my Peters Bros & toast my 3 finger dram for many more birthdays to come. Enjoy the evening!

Visiting some friends in Baltimore this weekend. Friday night I sampled some of the local flavor, National Bohemian and the Guinness Baltimore Blonde. Yesterday afternoon we visited the Guinness brewery, the only one in North America I'm told. I had several offerings including this black and tan that I'm enjoying with the officer (or whatever he is). Later, Jack Daniels helped us watch the Alabama/Tennesee game.

The good constable certainly appears to enjoy his Guinness. Reminds me of a great line from Mrs Doubtfire on the fate of Mr Doubtfire. Aye it was the drink that killed him (He was an Alcoholic?) No he was hit by the Guinness truck.

Wow, 65. I'll be there in another 2 years myself. Nice way to celebrate, Lagavulin and JD!

A friend left me with a jar of homemade green tomato & chili salsa. After I ran out of chips & being out of tequila it was time for some hand shaken Don Julio margs on HH. My Navy blue VS drew HH duty. Sitting under a blue neon bar light it looks bluer than what it is.

Haven't been here since before the Great 2020 Lockdown, but they must have known I was coming. The RESERVED sign was out at my favorite seat.

My Mood Meter is much better now even though today is National American Beer Day 2021. No Dos Equis, Guinness, or Heinekens allowed.

A long day, but a good one. The first time since the beginning of the pandemic that we’ve had friends over for a barbecue.
I planned to take a leaf out of Eric’s book and have a breakfast porter. I couldn’t do it. Coffee was my preferred morning drink. But I still opened my “Tokyo Black” porter at around 10 am.

Good conversation and good laughs were had over beer, wine and shochu.
On the menu was Jamaican Jerk ribs and Memphis dry ribs. I should add the disclaimer that I’ve never been to Jamaica or Memphis and I’ve only ever had my own ribs in the style of said places. While the authenticity of the ribs may be questionable, they still went down a treat.

That’s a small slab of homemade bacon on the left.
After everyone had gone home and the cleaning had been done, Etsuko and I indulged in some Knob Creek.
