Pin Holes in Leather

  • Hey guys I’m sure you’ve received a leather jacket with lapel or epaulette with Pin holes. When I’ve gotten them it’s usually 1 or 2 small pinholes and I usually don’t pay attention or occasionally I find a matching pin that lines up. Yesterday I received a recent SCHOTT 525 for a decent price. I love CHP style jackets.so I was very excited . Upon inspection it looked like someone had used the lapel as a pin cushion lol. After contacting the seller (FB-MP) she began telling me that’s no big deal attached to some minor insults
  • I asked for a return. She said yes but at my expense so I ask TFL, would you keep it at a good price but no additional discount, or return it at your expense.
  • So what says you - see picture below

I wouldn't keep any jacket I don't like or with issues that bug me, no matter what price.

Question is, do those pinholes bug you?
At that price yes at 1/2 that price not so much but no discount was forthcoming so I returned . Yea it really bugged me due to the mass and number of deep holes . Thanks for the advice MM

Tricky. I would be annoyed as f—k if those holes were not mentioned by the seller. Those are some serious holes. Almost to the point that I would request a refund just on principle. But… it depends, if you got it really cheap and it fits you really good, maybe keep it anyway?

These are not pinholes, these look like holes a bb gun would make, lol.

I would open a dispute (jacket not as described) and return it at seller's expense.

Edit - just noticed you wrote pin holes not pinholes. In any case, they are pretty big...

This absolutely and positively should've been disclosed in the listing and we're talking zoomed in, circled in red brush & with an arrow pointing toward each hole.

And I agree that these aren't pin holes; Pins leave tiny holes that aren't that big of a deal. These are left from something that's been stamped through the leather.

In this case, it's the seller that should be paying for the shipping back, all the while apologizing to you.

Here’s the original picture from ad and it’s low res . She said that low resolution picture was all the disclosure that was needed

This right here. 100% agree with Montior on this for sure.

I am looking at your photo you just posted (the Low-res frontal shot) and I completely disagree with the seller that it's "all the disclosure that is needed." No. Period.

Return it, open a case with ebay, and provide - Negative Feedback - if you cannot come to a good agreement.

Schott high-grade naked leather has darker spots like bug bites or similar all over and they, for some reason. really seem to appear prominent on photos, even though irl you probably wouldn't even notice them.

Thing is, I see the exact same dark spots on the right sleeve and left collar. Now that I know what they are, they do stand out but if I wasn't aware of the holes, on a photo like this I would've totally disregarded it as either natural blemishes or camera artifacts.

Is there a difference between pin holes or pinholes or just bad grammar and spelling

I am not an English expert, but I think there is. Pin holes are holes made by a pin, which can be tiny, but also bigger if the pin is mounted on a screw with a wider diameter. A pinhole on the other hand is almost always tiny because it has taken on a colloquial meaning (pinhole photography, etc). When I was working in the films business we called tiny voids in film which could only be seen through a magnifying glass - pinholes.

The original picture is enough for me to have passed on this. Those are basically holes ( not pinholes ) in the jacket ( and very obvious ) made from who's knows what.....Should the lady have mentioned it ? Probably.
A picture says a thousand words......

You CAN see the holes in the image. Come on... To me is not a big deal. I am very thorough at other things that matter more to me.
You can see them once you know what to look for . If you enlarge everything gets pixelated . I didn’t go over it like that cause of the resolution didn’t allow it , she said it was in VG condition and I did ask her about any unusual smells like cigarettes or musty garage. But not holes and she didn’t offer that. Btw this purchase from FB market paid PayPal not eBay .
