Right then folks, I managed to get hold of a scout/campaign type hat off evilbay for very few pennies, which I thought might be fun playing with. Although just a cheap wool felt hat,it had 'ideal for the D.I.Y. enthousiast' written all over it & upon recieving it I was pleasantly surprised by it's quality which was a little better than I was expecting.
Anyway here is the object in question,.....

It is made from the usual stiff felt typical of scout hats, with a 7cm (2.75") brim & a whopping 16 cm ( 6.2") crown & is a nice rich Kaki colour.
I have already steam formed it into a more classical shaped hat but I'm not pleased with it...

My initial plan was either to convert it into an informal safari hat, complete with puggaree or try to model it on the hat worn by Andrew W. Walker in the movie 'The Mountie' (aka 'The Way Of The West/ Lawman ) to which I've rather taken a fancy to.

It will probably end up though with a sloping, pinched front, tear drop shaped crown, Aussie style & with a front dipped brim as hats do tend to end up this way when ever I start to reshape them Hahahahah:confused:

So have you any suggestions of what else I could do with it other than the usual make overs .....I would be both interested to read your ideas & be eternally grateful for avoiding the treacherous outback route.......:D

Cheers.

I like the way you have it creased now. In fact, now you have me thinking of buying one and re-creasing it that way, as a hiking hat.

On Saturday we are heading off to the Dorset coastal town of Weymouth. There's a dance hall there called The Weymouth Pavilion, where we have tickets for a swing era concert come dance night. https://theswingdancecompany.co.uk/events/dorset-swinging-ball/

Decisions, I am wearing a period blazer that lends itself very much to the swing era, (take that as, Tina approves,) but should I wear a straw or felt hat? Whilst you are pondering on that, I am also wondering what shoes look best given that I shall wear the chocolate baggy trousers that Tina made for me? Art deco or 1920's spectators? Decisions, decisions.
