If you are UK based (or abroad and have pockets deep enough for the import duties etc) appreciate quality, are not short of funds and would like a belt you can pass on to your grandson, then I can recommend the work of Jasper Highet found at:

handmadeleatherbelts.co.uk

(tho’ sadly I see the website is currently closed to orders due to surgery! I hope he’s OK and it’s up and running again soon, this kind of craftsmanship is hard to find).

Jasper is a long time saddle maker and makes the belts to order using the highest quality thick UK bridle hide leather (I especially love the characterful oak bark tanned leather - 4 - 5.5mm thick! - from the last existing oak bark tannery in the UK. It takes 12 months to tan using traditional veg tan methods). You can of course choose from the various options on widths, lengths, buckles, number of holes, spacing etc etc (I really like his unique leather roller buckle with a nice contrast stitch). Plus he’s amenable to further custom tweaks eg different thread colour from standard too if he has it.

A cheaper (tho’ still not cheap) option, especially if you’re in the USA as they are made there so no import duties, is

https://www.dontmournorganize.com/

Again great leathers including English bridle hide options and American harness leather up to 16oz! Though admittedly these belts are a bit more workmanlike in execution, they are great for jeans and casual wear and there are some serious heavy duty buckle options to go with the thick solid leather!

yes. A friend of mine is a cobbler so I used his machines. i usually sew the items I make by hand but this time I wanted straight lines on the belt.
Straight seams are half the appeal of any product for me. I'm always glad to know and see that someone is doing something well.
Great belt!

Since I last reported here in 2016, I have gradually replaced virtually every belt I own with several Hanks Belts. I think Hanks specializes in gun belts but has very solid belts for casual and dress occasions. They sell a number of different styles. I own three of their Gunner belts (1.5" wide) for casual use, all three of their Canyon belts for dress/casual (1.5" wide), and all three of their Esquire belts (1.25" wide) for dress. I'm also very partial to their medium bison bifold wallet, and their front pocket ID wallet & passport wallet when traveling. Some of their belts are simply too thick and stiff for my use but not the belts I mentioned.

Here's their website. I think they're located in upstate NY and manufacture really great products. Worthwhile giving them a look as they are great people to deal with. They have a very generous return and/or exchange policy but unsure whether they ship outside the US?

After seeing this thread and all the cool belts, I had to have one of my own. A real, beefy, no-holds-barred trouser holder/defensive weapon. I contacted Scott from https://www.dontmournorganize.com/ and over email we discussed my requirements. I gave him my measurement from the fold of the leather at the buckle to the middle hole and it fits perfectly.

1) Heaviest harness leather (16 oz) in a natural color
2) 1.75 inch wide
3) Heavy brass roller buckle

After a couple of weeks, I've received the belt for a great price. Here are some pics:
