I’ve been hesitant to post any jacket pics following the Dutch Jacket Slayer postings but I do want to give props to 5 Star with the one they made for me. My contact was all via email and they were always prompt to respond and stay in touch thru the whole process.
They’re spot on in detail and measurements. Can find no flaw in their workmanship.
This was based off their Civilian Windbreaker aka Sunset with front pocket change and button up instead of zip.

Not very good lighting for fit pics in my wife’s vanity mirror.

My only non vintage leather, pretty stiff and shiny. May toss it in irrigation ditch then drag it thru an alfalfa field to speed up the wear process, patina, soften it up.
Again Shawn couldn’t have been more gracious and accomadating. Have absolutely no complaints on performance. I gave pretty detailed measurements. Kinda wished I would’ve stayed with original patch pocket and 2nd zipped pocket on the left side instead of trying to be so symmetrical and pull up horse but live and learn.
That is an exceptionally nice jacket, probably my favorite Five Star I’ve seen. And I think the symmetrical pockets look great, less flashy than the original but still very cool.

Check out my 5* inspired by Justin Chen's (coastal_file on ig) field leathers jacket. I opted for snaps instead of zippered sleeves. The ticket pocket is a bit too big but Shawn said changing it would mess up the symmetry of the jacket. I think I'm OK with it. This is the brown pull up HH and I think it has a lot of depth to it.

Wow nevermind the Dutch slayer postings lol, this is awesome. I already wondered what project you used those buttons for. I love those bound button holes.

If you told me this jacket was made by GW I would not have believed you. This is two tiers above GW, in terms of both fit and execution.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed. How did your nail the fit on your first go, did you use a mockup? Anyway, congrats on this amazing looking jacket.
Hey thanks Marc. I’ve had those buttons awhile. Got them originally to replace buttons on a jacket I already had but decided to save them for something little more special.
I just took my time and paid attention to the others experience with 5 star.
They really nailed it. It is a great fit. Just need some wear time and breaking in.

Top. Congratulations.
This is exactly how I imagine the fit for my jackets.
And on the first try. Awesome.

Posting to put a final pin my saga with the 2.2mm HH Halfbelt….really quite pleased after Dena’s work on the sleeves. I had hoped for this fit from the onset. Trim, without being restrictive and the hide more than delivers in terms of heft and personality. I am “all set” for black leather with this one. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do and compares favorably with the far more expensive contemporaries I’ve owned.
Hopefully these pics help Illustrate how nice this HH is. It’s actually more of a dark gray than black. Eggshell type finish. With wear it will definitely turn ash gray, particularly at stress points and seams. Fits in well with my older jackets.

Amazing jacket and great fit. First try too. That may be the most impressive part.

Thanks, this rookie appreciates it. However the real thanks goes to the guys like @MrProper, @ton312 and @Canuck Panda for being out early on the front line taking the 1st round of hits and misses and then sharing it here in the 5 star thread. Thats the biggest help in getting the fit right>

They paved the way. But you may be the only one to decode it all on the first try.

5* isn’t for me, but I’ve enjoyed reading about folks going through the process.

Hi

My first post here at TFL. I’ve been pretty much reading trough this entire thread which much interest. I’m thinking of buying the “Civilian 1930’s Cafe Racer from 5 star, with some modifications. I’ve been thinking a lot about which leather to choose. I saw the video 5 star put up on YouTube and their Facebook page on the CHL leather their offering. Do you guys think this is a “new” version of the CHL leather that’s more supple and pliable? Or maybe I should just play it safe and go for the HH or premium goat?

I don’t own any “real” leather jackets so this will be my first custom order. I’m aiming for an all round jacket with a classic look.
Not afraid of putting in time to break it in, I’m used to that from heavy selvage denim.

Best Regards H Widman

If the new leather is like the 2 mm HH, then unconditional purchase recommendation. Otherwise, you are on the safe side with Bock premium goat.

Thinking about the steerhide as well. But I read somewhere in this thread that it was “squeaky”.. Decisions decisions

I would go to thinner leather for first time, the new chl is quite thick. But if the price is same maybe it is worth to try 2mm leather.
