Straw pole - how many of you wear lids whilst driving?

Dave...

I've been wondering about some of the questions people pose here...
Is it that they can't find the information on the web, or that they're trying to communicate their interest in something?- start a thread...
We all obviously have the Internet as a resource and it's fun to research stuff-
just a matter of being creative in your searching criteria and use of different search engines. Using Google's picture search can be of great benefit in finding what you want, especially if you're looking for images of what you're searching for.

I'm new to fedora-wearing, but I've found that I can't wear mine in the car. The back of the hat hits the headrest, and I find that distracting. Reason enough to get an older car! (my '90 Acura qualifies as "old", but not yet "classic".)

But a cap works fine...

I drive a Saturn Ion Quad Coupe and I can wear my fedoras without them bumping the top of the car. I am 5' 5", however, not a big tall person. The headrest is another problem -- I can wear the softer hats and/or Indy styled, they just bend against the headrest, but have some difficulty with the the harder hats that have the brim snapped up in back.

I cannot wear my Stetson "Gus" -- have to take it off to climb in, then it bumps against the headrest. And forget the Akubra.

Caps are, of course, no problem at all.

I drive a Subaru Legacy. No problem wearing a hat in it. Plenty of room for my fedoras and m;y wide-brim aussies and I'm 5' 10".

I'm so weird about wearing a hat that I'll put one on for a 5 minute drive to take the kids to a church activity.

On those rare occasion when I decide not to wear one I always seem to regret it. It ends up that my head feels too cold or the sun gets in my eyes or something else.

I wear my hat..

in the car all of the time. I don't drive an old car but do drive what some consider an old man's car, a Buick LaSabre (2001). Will probably be trading it in for a younger man's car next year (the Buick LaCrosse).

Yes, I wear my hat while driving, and most everywhere else. I take it off at the appropriate times and NEVER leave it in the car. Restaurants don't scare me ;) .

Myron..old cars??? heck those are NEW cars to me. If they don't have running boards and mechanical brakes there just too damn new :p

AMEN, Art, and Amen!! (grins) Oh yes, and I wear mine while in the car as well.

Restaurants don't scare me either, but waitresses with poorly balanced trays filled with drinks do, so if necessary, mine gets left locked in the car if I know there won't be any place to put it.

I drive a Chevy truck. There's enough room in it for me to wear a fedora without it brushing on anything. I only wear it when it's cold and/or rainy, though.

When riding a motorcycle, I ALWAYS wear a lid--a skid lid (helmet).

Similar to the above two statements, except I drive a Ford F-150 ( not my choice, it was my father's).
My "getting to work vehicle" is a first generation Mazda RX-7 and I need to open the sun roof to be able to sit upright with a fedora on.

I usually wear a black jet-pilot helmet (HGU-33) with a single tinted drop down visor while on the motorcycle. ( I did come up with a leather rig to carry a hat on my back)

I have a '65 GTO convertible, but the temptation to put your toe in it is always to great to wear a hat.

Get an Ivy or a Newsboy for wearing while driving an open convertible.

That is what I do when my convertible is open; whien it is closed, I wear one of my Akubras.

Late to the thread

YES! That is one of "THE REASONS" that hats went out of fashion: LOWER ROOF LINES IN THE CARS.

I had a 1940 Buick (stupid stupid I sold it!) and the dang thing was a cave inside when it came to roof height. You could wear a 10 Gallon hat in that.

(Wow - I feel your pain)
Reminds me of the early fifties Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge lineup. The box styling. I'm paraphrasing, but the head of Chrysler refused to lower roof lines becasue he felt they needed to accomodate a man's hat. "We make cars to drive," he said, "not to piss over!"

I just bought a new car a few months ago and one of the requirements it had to meet was that I didn't have to take my hat off while driving it. I ended up buying a Nissan Murano.

Like Jay Leno once said, should anyone ever get in an accident in one of our old vehicles, all you have to do is hose off the dash and sell it to someone else! ;) Regards. Michaelson

Like I say about new tin can cars: "If you get in an accident with that all you have to do is bury the whole mess and place a headstone over it. It will save you on the cost of a coffin." :p

Regards to all,
