Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get your opinion on the fit of this Imperial. It’s a size 34. I don’t want to give too much of my own thoughts on it right now as I want unbiased opinions, so I’ll just post some pictures. Thank you.

Fit is fine. If I were mine, the sleeves would be an inch shorter, a bit too long for me, particularly unzipped. Otherwise I really have no bone to pick. The hem flares out when unzipped ,but that is the nature of the beast.

Thanks for your input. I initially thought the sleeves were a little long too, but I emailed Himel about it and they said that the sleeves will naturally shorten about an inch due to tunneling/creasing. They did say that they can shorten the sleeves if I still wanted to, but cautioned that doing so might make the sleeves shorter than I want due to the tunneling.

If anything, sleeves and body length just a touch too long for how I like to wear them. It’s possible that it will correct itself as it molds to you. I generally lose some sleeve/body length on a veg tan jacket as the creasing sets in. The fit sure doesn’t look bad by any means.

If you want to speed up that process and see if it is true, you can spray the sleeves with water from a spray bottle, so that they are wet, but not soaked through. Then wear the jacket, bend and flex your arms naturally, until the sleeves are dry. Some loungers got unbelievably good-looking, permanent creases that way. Same creases will also develop with dry leather, but will take a bit longer.

A little long in the body. I prefer a touch longer than most people around here, but I think yours is even pushing my limit, especially back length.

The sleeves I agree will shorten up some. 1 inch, I don't know, about half inch for sure if you develop deep creases, especially water induced. But I wouldn't worry too much on the sleeves.

It's slightly "blousy" in the body but I don't think it's over the top. Some wears and it'll flatten out some. The bottom hem does seem to be large though.

If it were me, I'd ask him to redo the bottom hem, taking off an inch in length (especially from back, maybe you can get away with front drop if you want it that long) and tightening it up some in the width.

edit: btw, as easy as I say that, it's a lot of work. They have to move the zipper, redo the lining, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The spraying water on the sleeves idea does sound interesting, but I wouldn’t mind letting them crease naturally over time.

I’ve considered having them shorten the hem and redo the body as well, but I wasn’t sure if 1) it was even possible, and 2) I can’t decide if I like it hem a little longer or not. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.

I was prepared for this jacket to be a bit looser of a fit, because I have an Aero that’s already really fitted, so I wouldn’t mind a looser fit, but part does wonder if it should be more fitted. Maybe I’ll just call up Dave and ask what the options are.

The shoulder width is good but everything else seems just a touch too big.

If you want to layer, the chest would be okay. However, I think it would look better with .75” shorter sleeves and 1” off the bottom hem.

To me a Halfbelt, particularly one of this style, should be more fitted. This jacket looks one size too large and too long in both the body and sleeve length.
On another note, the chest pocket appears to high in the shoulder, it should be at least 1” lower. I hate to bust on the jacket but for the price paid, a better outcome should be expected.

^^ wow, I didn’t notice at first glance, but yeah that chest pocket is definitely up there.
If you look at the stock photo on the Himel site, the placement of the chest pocket is consistent with OP's jacket. I do agree that it is higher up than I care for on this style of jacket.

Good call. I think high chest pockets tend to elongate the body and contribute to confusing proportions. Lowering it or setting it at an angle would make a world of difference.

Is it me or are these pocket misaligned?

Tbh none of the pockets in this image look right to me….chest pocket looks really odd with that v high placement and the handwarmers look misaligned, as Marc says. Maybe just a poor photo and its not so bad in real life, but going on what I see here this looks poorly put together - especially at the price….the whole impression is that it all looks a bit “off” as a piece.
