Ordering a custom…question for the gurus…

Hi all. So I am seriously thinking about ordering a jacket, and am set on a type one or two…with leaning more towards one. My question is really about the pocket placement. I have a y2 type one now I am happy with but I never use the outside pocket as it is too high up on the chest to actually open lol. If I go with a lower pocket placement will it look “odd” you think?
I am thinking of going with something like this:

and maybe without the flap? Unsure and am trying not to overthink it.
The type two is attractive as I can have two inside pockets behind the useless outside pockets and they will never “print” through…
I figure one outside pocket is nice for stashing the phone or something when my hands are full carrying **** etc like groceries to the car or whatnot.
Opinions appreciated.

Well, here's at At Last & Company denim jacket (in the classifieds) that has a pocket slightly further up and with a little more shape to the bottom of it.

I'm not a Purist; I require value and utility in my (usually common Mil Repro) leather jackets. I'm not slavishly devoted to some "Original" pattern of jacket which may have included some mistakes in the specs.

To me, pockets should be useable, which often means not placed so high on the chest as to be inconvenient/impossible to access with same-side arm/hand. Cigarette pockets are different. High on chest for opposite arm access, or possibly on sleeve for Mil jackets which had harnesses over the front of the jacket.

I like the low pockets. As to flapped or no.... it depends what you want to do with them. If they're purely a matter of aesthetics, open top patch pockets can look nice. If you want to put anything in them and keep it secure, though, I'd go with flapped. Studded, for convenience (faster in / out, open / close than a button). Me, I'd maybe even consider one flapped and one open. Not for everyone, but I often like a little, practical asymmetry.

My favorite is the Last & Company denim jacket (in the classifieds) that has the pocket further up. Attention to lower pockets. The pockets add visual bulk and tend to emphasize the stomach area in an unflattering way. Cheers, Rebecca Lady and pattern maker of Satyr leather

I posted on classifieds a while back but sold it to someone on Reddit. For what it’s worth, the high arm holes with one inch of chest ease just didn’t work for me. You’ll want to make sure you get at least 2 inches chest ease with double helix. I went the route of shortening the body and sleeves. I think if I had got that with a size 42 it would have worked out for me. I did mention at the end of my emails with Matsuda that 42 would probably work better but they still made a 40 anyways. Didn’t want to bother sending it back so I sold it

And yes I never used the chest pocket during the time I had it. Never wanted to either cause I didn’t want some weird fade pattern there with the teacore horsehide
