Was the house in your family when the photo was taken? Do they still have races (or whatever was going on there) on the pond?

Topper willl likely correct me but there is such a thing as a Cambridge bowler. They have a higher crown and a wider brim. I can't tell about brim width from the picture but I can see the crown is pretty tall.
It could just be the era though. The Cambridge bowler is not as round on top as a regular bowler. It is more flat and sloping at the sides.
