I have a belt my father was wearing when he died, I know this because I was with him. As it is rather a nice belt I wear it just as I would any other nice belt, the only difference with this one is that it reminds me of dad ....and I rather like that.

Hell no it ain't wierd! I worn my father's and step-father's clothes and jewelry after they passed. The original owners of my 1950 Packard are long gone and they haven't pulled a "My Mother the Car" yetlol

I inherited a fair amount of my husband's grandmother's clothing. She had kept things from the 30's through the 70's. I have the suit she wore when his grandfather came home from the war. I wear her stuff all the time and she's been dead for close to 18 years. Doesn't bother me at all.

my parent's elderly neighbor threw away all her brother's WW2 uniforms and gear a few years back because "who would want that old stuff?"

Not at all. I wear my grandfathers' old suits and ties all the time (at least when I get the chance). I feel as if I'm honoring their memories by wearing their clothes.

I prefer wearing dead people's clothing. Whenever I wear a living person's clothing they kind of get upset...

Actually, part of the draw of vintage items for me is that they were part of someone elses life long ago. I started off collecting old photos - which I still do. I would go through the photographs and look at the people - I would wonder what their lives were like...does anyone even remember them now - how sad it is that I have these photos and not their descendants.

It is the same with vintage clothes and items - how wonderful it is to ponder the lives of those that once occupied these clothes and once listened to this old radio on a quiet Monday evening - once typed on this old typewriter - once turned on this old fan on a hot summer day.

Once, at a vintage clothing store, an old sportcoat caught my eye. I looked inside the inner breast pocket for a name/date label. Sure enough, there was one: it said "Harilela's, Hong Kong. Tailored for Paul Chevalier." Dated 1962. That's right: it once belonged to my dad (who's still alive). Turns out my mom gave it away years before.

For some silly reason, the situation felt freaky to me. Almost disturbing. Even so, I didn't buy the jacket.

I was at a goodwill once with my mom and came across a child's clown costume that looked eerily familiar to me. I pulled it off the rack and went over to my mom and said ma, does this look familiar? We both started to look at the seaming and recognized it as her work. It was a costume she'd made for me when I was a kid. Whoever we'd given it to when I outgrew it must have donated it. I was tempted to buy it back for nostalgia reasons...but my mom told me I was being silly and I didn't. Now I wish I had.

Ha ha, Matt Noir!

Heck, no! It's one way of honoring the dead ladies in my size who shared my taste in clothing. My goodness, for a while there I had more friends who had died than those alive! (I have since made more friends.) My dad died in September and I dream of him and other dead relatives, friends and pets every night. Also surrounded by dead people's books, furnishings, and even food.

that creeps me out too!! i know it's been 60 years, but it still gives me the chills seeing any "Axis" stuff from WWII.
