This is gonna sound nutty......but have you tried looking at Ikea...?

I know they have Swedish licorice in their deli stores. I haven't had any to know what tastes like....but it -could- be closer to what Spitfire is talking about...no?

The Sweedish liquorise is almost allways sweet - but you might be lucky to find some Finish. They make a nice strongish, salt-licorice.

Lots and lots of salty liquorice here as well obviously. I didn't like it to begin with but it's my better half's favourite so it's been battered into me over the years to grow to love it.

I love the little Norwegian salty liquorice pastiller, Stupedama, IFA, etc. Swedish Saltsild aren't bad.

Spitty, you'd be a fan of "Tyrkisk Peber" (for the non-Scandinavians benefit, hot, salty liquorice candy filled with powered pepper). Good stuff!

Hmmm....candy goodness!

If I'm going TRUE candy, it's Hot Tamales. I dont know why but I've loved them since I was a little one.

I also remember these red licorice pipes I used to get from a mill in Massachusetts when I was a kid. I havent ever been able to find them anywhere else.

OR....true maple sugar candy. Used to buy the big maple leafs of it in Plymouth as a child.

**memories**

If we're going chocolate type candy, it's either KitKat, Twix or Milky Ways.

I'm not too big into candy, but I am partial to Andes Chocolate Mints, Jelly Belly's, and believe it or not... Sixlets. I'm probably the lone human alive that does like them. I also dig Almond Joy, M&M's peanut, and my favorite movie candy, Sno-Caps.

Worst candy ever?... circus peanuts. Ick.

I like Halvah - either Israeli or Lebanese style. Plain and pistachio are my favorite. Marble is great too.

My favorite candy of all time are Johnny Appleseeds sour apple candies.

I would LOVE for anyone to give me ANY info on where/how to purchase these.

We need a worst candy thread. I don't like circus peanuts or licorice (black).

But I do like Orange Slices! :)

+1 on the black licorice hate. However, living in Florida, I like my orange slices straight off the tree.;)

And my trees are gonna be full this year!

Supposedly they're now made by Ferrara Pan (the Atomic Fire Balls people) and called Appleheads. Not sure about the info-source's reliability, but you might check out http://www.oryans.com/johaptreat.html.

I agree with this...but my brain does not classify Halvah as 'candy'....its just a treat...Grew up having it as a once in a while thing....

Tried some in Egypt and uggg....I obviously did not get the kind I liked...thats what happens when trying to read arabic when you don't.

Chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate CHAWKLET!

Ah, a subject dear to my heart. I am, I must confess, a chocoholic. But now that we know that chocolate is four of the seven major food groups, that's a good thing, right? I'm a dark chocolate fan, the darker the better. I usually go for the 70% stuff, but I'm trying to train myself for the more bitterer 86% stuff. My mother turned me onto dark chocolate, and she was right. When I was a wee bairn my dad used to stop at Barricini's in Grand Central Station and get her candied orange peel, covered in dark chocolate. I can thank her for turning me onto that delicacy. My other two faves are Perugina Baci, (I was in Perugia in 2004 and shopped at their home town outlet store.Yum!), and any dark chocolate with candied ginger in it. I also try to find chocolate with "Fair Trade" on the label. It's been reveled that a lot of African cocoa growers use 11 and 12 year old boys as slave labor on their plantations. Don't need chocolate that much.
