Hello all-
I was having a discussion with my father today and he told me about a sport jacket he had in high school (in 1951) that was grey with green sleeves. George McFly wears one in Back to the Future when he was in school. Does anyone know where I can get one of these or if they have a name?
Thanks,
Jason

Yes- Thats the one. There was another similiar that Leonardo DiCaprio wore at the end of "The Aviator" when he flew the Hercules/Spruce Goose, only that had a tan plaid pattern with brown sleeves.

Ah, these are such cool coats! They aren’t really a sport jacket, I say these are leisure jackets going by some of the labels I have seen in the ones I have found. I don’t have any in my collection because it’s hard to find them in a large size. But, they have been called Hollywood coats and car coats.

They came in fabric combos such as gabardine with wool tweed sleeves and back panel. Others are wool flannel of the same weight just in two tone colors. Patch pockets were very common on these coats.

You can find them at fine vintage shops here and there and also on ebay on the off occasion. They can go for money because they’re not very common today.

Any way, good luck!

Root.

Another Idea...

I would almost be willing to bet that you could send the McFly pic to mycustomtailor.com, tell them what fabrics you want and they could make it.

I wish I could get one of those jackets myself...or at least some kind of leisurely golden era jacket to wear when I'm not wearin a suit, but want to wear vintage.... Especially one like George's there :)
