Hi everyone -
I'm new here, although I've been lurking for some time. It's great to see others interested in looking presentable. I'm 42, with kids, terminally middle-class, and find some guilty pleasure in nice clothing.
I'm mightily intrigued by several things about classic dress. Here in Denver's Capitol Hill, the neo-Bohemian area of the city, tattoos and piercings don't warrant a second glance. Yet suspenders and a hat seem to draw stares.
I buy nearly everything I wear from local thrift stores, we hit several each weekend. I'll get comments about how much my clothes must cost, but have quit telling people "Well...the suit was $6.00, the shoes $3.00, the tie $1.50..." I'll look at a shirt, for example, at the mall, and think: "I can buy TEN shirts for that at the thrift stores!" Not to mention the thrift store stuff is often of better quality and will be unique. The downside is the time you have to spend in the thrift stores, and perhaps a bit of tailoring post-purchase, but it's fun and cheap...how can you argue with that?

Ah, I wish. My current projects are a note on a simile in Sophocles' Ajax and a discussion of a pair of emmendations to the text of the Odyssey by Richard Bentley (1662-1774, master scholar (published on Classics, especially Greek, and physics and was royal librarian for a while). I do,though, as you can probably tell, have an interest in the history of classical scholarship. The 1940's were a rough time. Wilamowitz and Housman (of "A Shropshire Lad" fame- his Latin and Greek were even better than his poetry) were dead in the thirties.The Wolf said:

I'm an artist, I live in Ohio and paint lots of vintage portraits, in fact it's become a specialty recently, now that people realize I can do it. Vintage portraits-- if anyone wants to know-- are full size, full color oils created from old black and white photos. Nice to meet you all.

Hello ladies. I'm kind of new here, just noticed this thread. I love all vintage styles and see many of you wear them beautifully. It's the 40's and 50's for me, seems to suit my body best and I find items easily. Thank you for posting such useful information and ever since I found this site I don't feel like such an odd duck in the current world.

I've started my own local "Fedora Gang" here in L.A. and a walk down Hollywood Blvd stops folks dead in their tracks. They're thirsting for the return to classy dress and a sense of style. My gang of friends keeps growing and we're constantly getting people coming up to us asking us how to "join!" or if they can take a picture with us! The feedback seems to genuinely mean they like the look and we're not just another freak-show.<br>

HOWDY from TEXAS!
Hello, fellow FL'ers,
I've been - too long - a lurker and wanted to finally post one or two messages and say hello to everyone. I've read a lot of the posts and threads and enjoyed them all. We have a comely group of people here as members of the Lounge. Many beautiful women are here, surprisingly, and that's a good thing.
I've recently purchased a Savoy from Art and it's on the block as I'm writing this message. Hopefully, I'll have it in time for Thanksgiving. We have already discussed ribbon options and I'm excited about that.
I wear straws in the summer and needed a nice beaver or two for the cooler weather in North TX. I will post a few pics when I have them and let you take a look at my ever growing collection. I'm a buyer on eBay and look for the vintage hats there. Last month I purchased a custom hat from Peters Bros. Hat company in Ft. Worth. It's the only one like it in the world. It's a modified navy blue beaver 'pork pie' with a stiff brim and grayish silver and gray striped ribbon. Pretty cool, if I say so myself. It looks like a mix between a pork pie and a Sinatra hat, with a little bit of river boat gambler thrown in there somewhere, too.
My avatar is me. It's a caricature that I had done while in Las Vegas last year.
I live in Irving, TX, a suburb of Dallas. I work in Dallas, live in Las Colinas and enjoy north TX. I was born and raised in Kansas and moved here in 1991. So, the message at the end of the signature indicates that I like it here.

Ok so here goes! im new to this as well, today is my first day
Im from Kansas city ks and just got married, it's been 2 weeks now and im loving it! And yes my last name really is nice now.
i really love the beauty section of this webpage, tons of great info! by day i work at an electric company as a project coordinator and i go to night school to become a cosmetologist, every woman in my family has done hair it was time for me to fallow in there foot steps (I will be 5th generations), I got a later start than every one else because I thought I wanted to go to college for something else first, so now I have a BS in computer technology.
I work hard, and a lot. Between work and school i don’t have a lot of time, i have a dog (she’s a standard poodle, she's about 65 lbs!), other than that im just trying to stay focused. Here lately i have lost a lot of motivation for school, i love doing hare but 13 hour days are a lot to take on, so if any one here is a cosmetologist and has some works of advice it would be much appreciated.

I am 37, married and live in Southeastern Oklahoma with my wife Sandra. We are from Mississippi and have been married for 11 years.
I pastor a small church here in Oklahoma (but am looking for a call ... if anyone needs a pastor, let me know).
My hobbies are woodworking and reading. Although my woodworking skills are only marginal at best, I enjoy it!

Found this place whilst looking for advice as to reshape one of my two beloved Borsalinos.
Nice waterhole, I must say.
I have been a dedicated "poseur" for most of my 47 years.
Recently refreshed my style after huge; yet loving and gentle, pressure from my girlfriend.
Laid my bikerish bad-boy look on the shelf and came out of the closet.
40s Britain is the name of the game; tweed, home made hand-knitted sleeveless pullovers and all.
(My girl is a handy woman, and a gem...)
Although a conservative when it comes to mens fashion, I find it absolutly necessary to insert my own twist into my public appearance and conduct.
Love to see the bewildered looks in the eyes of those with more money than sense of style.
Must confess to breaking the rule of NEVER wearing short-sleeved shirts with a suit.
Committing this mortal sin is partly because of my admiration for Andy Sipowicz of NYPD, and partly because I like showing off my numerous tattooes.
The Gent you do not want to mess with...
As a certified Tonmeister, I openly admit to having an everlasting love affair with music.
Especially the first "world-music" which appeared at the advent of the commercially widespread audiograms of the 30s - 40s - 50s.
North-American Jazz, Blues, Rock & Soul was exported, then processed, and re-processed, and re-processed again, going back and forth between continents.
The era of the Kingston "Rude-Boy" (Jamaica) and the Sophiatown "Tsotsi" (South-Africa).
Sharp dressers with dancing shoes and a switchblade or a razor cleverly hidden.
Anybody on Itunes?
Check out "The Manhattan Brothers", who had an 18 years old Miriam Makeba as a sometime member, and the early work of Desmond Dekker and Bob Marley.
