Deals on Wheels!

Over the course of 3-4 months, a few friends and I have noticed an on going trend on ebay. Many beautiful and drivable 30’s-40’s cars are going for very reasonable prices. Last month I think it was we saw a rare 1940 DeSoto sell for no more then $3000.! It was in original condition, and was drivable! The interior was pretty clean and not too stained… it just needed to be cleaned out some and driven! The paint as I recall wasn’t too bad either! A very fun car to drive as is or, a very straight forward restoration for only 3k!!! Better original condition then my ’46 Ply and I shelled out 5k for mine!

Last night I saw a very rare ’37 De Soto… it’s starting at 6k with no bids and no reserve!!! It’s in very good original condition… the interior is original and in fine shape! Some normal stains on the headliner but, she’s 70 years old! My self, I’d leave it. But, it drives and is very clean.





Also, a friend of mine last month bought a 1939 Dodge Luxury Liner that had new upholstery, good paint, smooth rebuilt motor, good glass, DRIVES!!! 100% complete and with a trunk full of original shop manuals and sales brochures… not to mention 3 or 4 spare carburetors and many other parts!... The bidding was at only $2500.!!! And a buy it now for only $4k! My friend bought it!!!

Well its always been a general rule that 4 doors are always cheaper (and by most people) less desireable than 2 door vehicles. I'd like to find an old chevy 2 door anywhere from 1936-1941,....I might even go for one from 1946-47.

buddy of mine scored one that was amazingly nice,...think its a 40? chevy....really nice,..the guy falls into the good stuff all the time too!

There's a 46-47 chrysler 4 door in an auto salvage yard near me,...usually gets $100-700 a car. I would buy it, but the only thing is, first its a Chrysler (and they're hard to find parts for) and its missing the passenger side front fender, grill and bumper I believe. The first time I looked at it, the key was actually IN IT! My buddy and I hooked up the battery and it actually started as long as you held in the throttle!!! Amazing!

Then again, I have NOWHERE to store it and work on it!!!

I beg to differ my friend, four doors were on the rise in popularity for a wile… people are wanting a larger car so their friends or family can ride a long… and who can beat those wonderful suicide doors? Can’t get those on post ’35 two doors!

Every time I’ve seen a nice four door like a ’39 Chrysler, De Soto, Dodge or Plymouth for sale, in that shape… they mostly have all been over 7k! Fully restored cars will fetch over 10k.

Post war Chryslers aren't hard to get parts for! Rather easy if you know the places to look! WPCC (Walter P. Chrysler Club) is full of members who have all sorts of lists of places to find parts! It's not just about Ford's or Chevy's any more! MoPar autos are some of the best! Drive my '46 daily... in fact it's the only car I own! Wouldn't have it any other way ;-) Once you drive one, you’ll buy one!!!

Man, now that's what I call an automobile!
*sigh* If I only had the jack....

Dang, that deSoto really speaks to me. Someday, soon, I hope, I'll be able to pick one up.

My grandpa's car! Circa 1951!

The Desoto and lots of cars like it are still reasonably priced! People see any vintage car and assume it is in the 57 Chevy price range.

NADA.co reflects value of $8600 for average and $11,750 for an immaculate one. Either way, there are many decent vintage vehicles for decent prices.

Study Ebays cars and the prices they go for and you'll see.

And you can find post war Chrysler parts for sure.
