I also heard Lavay Smith is coming to texas.That would be another great show.I'll look up info.

I have a school dance to chaperone, and being that I'm new there, I'm not sure if I could just pop in for an hour and make an appearance and then leave. But if not the dance is over at 9pm and I could always meet y'all in FW around 9:30 if several of y'all decide to go.

Very cool! Awesome that your family line goes back that far. I"m something like 6th or 7th generation Texan as well, but I really do need to ask more about our family history in relation to the Road to Texas' independence.

well...better late than never...Texas Hill Country.....My Family arrived in San Antonio in 1849. They made saddles until about 1964...what is it about Texans and giving History Lessons? (grinning)

Great,so a couple of votes for the theatre!
I'm thinking dinner,dancing,and a show.(they'll play some old black and whites such as Casablanca)
They did this for valentines and we loved it.It is theatre seating so the dance floor is sloped(not the best)but it's difficult to beat the ambience.

Grandbury has a drive in theater. Just an idea but a little too far to drive maybe.

I'm thinking more on the lines of...

Dinner and some kind of show...Dinner Theater, Jazz/Swing concert thingee, nothing outdoors. Middle of Nov is out for me I've got a trip I gotta take.

I do know a great lounge band,more in the Sinatra style that'd be perfect.

Something like that sounds great Ruby. Mid to late October would be great for me. It would give me enough time to rearange some stuff.

Preferably on a weekend, and not on a Tuesday or Thursday, my wife has a class on those nights.

I say pick a date in mid to late October and we'll arange our sched. accordingly. Accept for the days mentioned above I can do most anything.

The theatre is already booked for October,so we may have to find an event that sounds like us or we're out of luck.Dallas gets booked months in advance(lots of weddings)which means we need those months to plan our own.
Let me see what I can find,though.
Since there isn't too many of us we could just get a large table at a nice supperclub if i can find a good band playing.

I think the company and conversation is more important anyway. There are so many of you here I'd like to meet. So whereever it is, I'm game...even if it's at Burger King. There is a 50s themed fast food restaurant in Arlington, I don't know what's out there in way of dinner clubs with Jazz bands, but I'll keep my ears and eyes peeled open.

I can't believe I never saw this thread, especially since there are so many familiar faces here. (Believe it or not, a friend from Tokyo just sent me the link!)

Big T and I live in Carrollton, just north of Dallas, and we would not miss the opportunity to rendezvous with our friends from the Fedora Lounge. What a superb idea!!!

As for venues, if it's still open for discussion, I would suggest the Plaza Arts Center in Old Downtown Carrollton. It's an historic 1940s theater that has been converted into an art gallery. There's a lovely upstairs balcony area that they rent out for receptions, and it would be a nice size for the lot of us. Their Website seems to be down right now, but here's the phone number: 972-242-5454.

Also, the theater is on the south side of the historic square, which truly feels like it has been preserved in time. (Pen Collector and ITG both came to visit us when we had the RetroRadar store there, and they can attest to the WWII-era vibe.) Most of the shops sell antiques and vintage wares. There's also good eating, including Babe's Chicken, the Broadway Bistro Wine Bar & Cafe (also in a stunning historic building on the opposite corner) and Sid's Rainbow Grill, an old soda fountain shoppe that's been there for decades.

If we do something in the month of October, we could also make a group trip to the Texas State Fair, which will be in town at that time. What about Columbus Day Weekend, since many folks will have an extra day off of work?

Please keep me and Big T posted as the plans come together. We can't wait to meet all y'all likeminded retro fans here in the Lone Star State!
