Your Favorite Years? What time period do you follow?

1953...

Don't know why.

I was born in '56 so maybe a lot of the late forties, early fifties-style cars, buildings, music, hats, advertisments, etc. where still around as I was growing up.

I can't tell you how many times I've been stopped in my tracks by a film on TV, only to discover it was made in...1953. There are scenes in some films from 1950-1953 that I swear I can smell! (And not just beause they stink).

If you believe in reincarnation, it probably makes a lot of sense.

I really like the culture, art, fashion, and music of the years 1945 through 1963. Ten years ago i was into the early late forties/fifties fashion (e.g., Eisenhower jackets, jump blues, spectators) but in the last five years I have gravitated toward the slim fitted suits and slim jim ties of the late 50s and early sixties. I really love the Jet Age and the style that went with it.

I like 1890 - 1906 Turn of the Century

because of the styles, it was still around the Victorian era

and also the Great earthquake and fire of 1906 San Francisco

I also like the 1930's & 1940's because of WWII history and I like collecting militaria from that era the most

Hmmm....I'd say for me it would be from about 1952 - 1963. The golden age of Television, the birth of Rock & Roll, Ike, the Rat Pack.....Swanky Times Indeed!!!

Just wondering what period of time folks here on the lounge are most interested in
After much reading and studying find my self drawn to the mid to late 1920's with an budding interest in the time right after the Great War. I enjoy the glamor of the roaring 20's and the wildness of the time.
Have a friend who just can not stand flappers and is a 30's gal but the depression is just to dark and well.......depressing for me.
Not a lot of interests in the WW2 years though some interesting in North Africa during that time the LRDG and what they did is a great story and what interesting men.
Now the post war years Atomic age they are of no interests to me .
So what about the rest of you?

The mid 30's to mid 50's. I love the 3o's the most though. I love the hair , clothing, furniture, movies etc.. It's a little easier to find things from the 50's and my figure is more suited to 50's fashion so I've learned to love it more and more.

For Fashion I love the styles of the 20's and 30's best .Unfortunately, I don't have the sleekness to look as well in it as i want, or to fit in most of it to be frank.Usually I end up wearing a lot of 40's and 50's, which is still lovely.Musically speaking it is also the 20's.

For decorating I love Art Deco,and it works well for my family as I can enjoy being retro, but still make it work with the modern stuff the rest of them enjoy.

Truthfully, I'm all over the place though.There is no decade that i don't love.

Different days different inspiration. Generally the thirtees seems to add the most draw for me at the moment in all its forms: The music is at its prime, the hair styles, the more earnest looking suits (seems to be much less overt padding than the 1940's) Women's sleek fashions...It just seems it was a lot less 'flabby' and up its self than the style of the 40's.

I'm probably talking a lot of tosh, but it makes sense to me

I used to be strict with the way I dress, music, period correct – 1950's. I had been lax for sometime now. Been wearing mainly Lucky 13 workshirts and my Merrill Sawtooth. Sorta put aside my vintage shirts, pendelton's, gab jackets, engineer boots, etc for the time being. I do however still walk out of the house every single day with my hair gobbed up to a pomp and a DA. Just in between periods right now.

I love the '20s through the '60s (I could never pull off '20s styles though!) and I have hard time sticking with a favorite era -- there's just too much interesting stuff from each one. Right now, I'm really into post-WWII. I love the New Look era fashions, but I prefer '60s music and '30s/'40s movies...I guess I'm just all over the place.

For music: Roughly the years 1900 through 1950. I like very little after that period as far as new songs or styles of music. I do like some of the songs made post 1950 by the artists (Jazz and popular) who made their mark pre-1950.

For films:American films from 1930s through early fifties. Foreign films from about 1945(Rome Open City) through 1963 (8 1/2) or so.

For clothes: mid thirties through to early/mid fifties.

For hats: mid thirties through early sixties-big crowns and brims and stingies will all get equal time on my head.

For cars: American made cars from the 1930s through the early 1950s. Foreign cars from the 1950s through about 1967 (Love those French Citroen)

For giant radioactive reptiles with a penchant for stomping on far-eastern metropolitan cities: definitely 1954.

You know, on second thought..... I like it all from the Victorian age up to the 80's! Things when dratically down hill after the 80's, in my opinion - well, a lot of music is still good (alternative).

Anything between 1600 and 1930s. I study a lot of maritime history and I just can't narrow my preferences down to less than 300+ years. There's just too much good stuff going on.

American Graffiti is 1962. More proof that decades go from midway through one to midway through another (1955-1965) than span from year zero to nine (1950-1959).
