It's all in perspective. One man's idol is another man's contempt. I figure either people like me or not. It's all in the paycheck anyway for me. If I can make more money doing one thing than another I go for the higher pay.

If it's all in the paycheck and you go for the higher pay maybe you should look into dealing drugs, pimping or murder for money with a couple of kidnapping for ransom thrown in for good measure. There's a big paycheck. [huh] ;)

Well, if the choice is between an office job making $60,000 a year and say driving a bread truck for $80,000 I'm behind the wheel of the bread truck.:D

I hear you but does it not depend on what the office job entails? There is a lot one can do in an office that beats getting up at 2 a.m. and dealing with all that involves bread delivery. Would you rather do what you love to do for 60g's a year or what you hate for 80g's a year? I think it all depends on circumstances and personal choice. Just like beauty, prestige is in the eye of the beholder.

you think you are not mentioned, there are only about 10,000 certified people in my field in the whole US, we NEVER get mentioned in surveyslol

True, but as I said earlier it all goes boils down to the money. Plus, there's the solace and tranquility of not having an immediate supervisor watching you or phones ringing while driving a truck.:D

I wonder why Harris didn't include poll-takers in their results. Probably because you don't need a percentage to know people despise your job if you get the phone slammed down on you a hundred times a day. lol

Did the article specify it was a telephone poll by Harris? I am a member of Harris Interactive and do several surveys by email, and earn nifty gifts as a token thank-you. My dad was a member as well, representing the over-80 crowd. I can't say what surveys I've taken part in, however, it's against the rules.
Seems like it was more of a fun, newspaper-filler type of a poll. [huh] I agree with the comments about prestige and jobs, too. No one is ever going to be impressed that I'm a library clerk, tailor, and business owner which pay enough that I can live comfortably and only work part-time. People are more likely to ooh and ahh at someone who calls herself a writer when in reality all she does is have a weblog that generates a little money from readers clicking on ads. lol
