What have I missed???

I have to admit that I haven't seen an episode since the last Tom Baker episode.... (Logopoli or something to that effect) was aired on PBS back in the 80's.

I loved seeing the early special effects and when the British army would arrive and start shooting up the joint!!!

I can't remember the episode, but on one of the old shows you can see that one of the "walls" on the set has a huge rent in it that's been hurriedly taped up. It was rather distracting and I kept thinking "what's with that..." until the villians break through it. They must have done a previous take that didn't work for some reason, just patched up the set because of time or money constraints (or both) and reshot the scene despite the glaring taped up crack in the set. Hysterical. The slickness and spiffy effects on the new series are great, but it's stuff like that in the old series that is really endearing for me.

Very cool to have Blink readily available, Hem. I'd never get anything done if I had an iPhone--too much temptation!

After a too-long absence from watching, I caught last week's episode. With the ever-so-gorgeous David Tennant and what's-her-name, the redhead, I forget her name... and, uh... weird little critters made out of human fat? Sigh. Tennant still makes fabulous eye-candy, but the shark, she has been jumped.

That opening episode of this season was appalling, and all involved in approving such a stinker of a script should be shot. Stick with it, though - the next few have all been great. Every season has at least one crappy episode in it (remember Gods and Monsters?) - hopefully this is them getting it out of the way early on.

I had a particular thought today: Wouldn't James Nesbitt have been a great choice to play the Master?

no, no, no, the man is a humourless ape, and thats an insult to apes. He can't act (unless you call acting playing yourself over and over again) and has a vastly over inflated idea of his own attractiveness. I just don't get why he is considered attractive, why why why.

I have to say, I agree.

He should stick to those Yellow Pages adverts - how I loathe James Nesbitt!!

Midgetqueen - what does "she has been jumped mean"? I never heard that phrase before. I personally can't stand her character, and hope they rid the show of her very soon. Her character is obnoxious!

I have heard some people are disappointed, but I just saw the 2 parter by Moffet (he wrote Blink) and it was really really good. Really really good. Fantastic! to borrow a phrase from 9. :D

Long term Whovian here, once upon a time I was a member of a local fan club. Seen episodes from Dr's 1-6 and the current fellow. The new episodes are well-written, and the effects are much better. Only real gripe is the TARDIS control room. Even if the same cheapskates at the Beeb that erased many of the earlier episodes demolished the original sets, SURELY blueprints exist or can be made by SOMEONE. The Control Room is just plain.... wrong. Kind of reminds me of the SIDRAT if anybody remembers that.

IMHO the original show jumped the shark at the end of Logopolis. Davison was awful and Colin Baker was even worse. Sorry, Tegan Jovanka and Adric aren't in the same FIELD as Romana or Sarah Jane or Harry or Leela... If anything, Dr Who UNjumped when it came back; the current Dr has fashion sense we haven't seen since Jon Pertwee and early Tom Baker.
