Some kind of dog...

The dog should have been made to do obedience classes and the owner gun safety classes... Condolences to the friends and family of the deceased, of course.

From AOL News:
"A hunting dog shot his owner dead after stepping on the trigger of a loaded shotgun.

Perry Alvin Price died in a hospital from severe blood loss shortly after the accident in south-east Texas.

Police said Mr Price, 46, was hunting near Stowell, about 60 miles east of Houston, when he shot a goose.

Mr Price then put the gun in the back of his truck and was about to open the tailgate to release his dog when the shotgun fired, investigators said. The blast penetrated the truck's tailgate before hitting Mr Price in the thigh.

Paw prints from the dog, a chocolate labrador retriever named Arthur, were found on the muddy shotgun, Sheriff Joe LaRive said.

Daniel Groberg, Price's hunting partner, said he tried to stop the bleeding with clothing before driving him to seek help.

"It's the strangest case that I've seen," Sheriff LaRive said. "We couldn't talk to Perry and Groberg was at the front of the truck when he heard the shotgun blast and didn't see what happened."

Take a Hunter Safety Course & a 1st Aid Course

Loaded Shotgun + Safety Off + Laid in Back of Truck with Dog + Barrel(s) pointed Toward Owner = Death From Gunshot Wound

Mr. Price's death is tragic.

However, following basic rules of safety when handling firearms is always in order. Failure to do so cost this man his life.

Not knowing where Mr. Price was initially wounded, it's possible that a tourniquet would not have helped. However, I wonder if either of these men had a basic knowledge of emergency 1st aid and whether they even had any 1st aid items available.

I don't know if either of these gentlemen had ever been in the Boy Scouting program. I suspect they had not.
There's a reason why "Be Prepared" is the Boy Scout motto. Additionally, any boy who earns a rifle or shotgun shooting merit badge knows both firearm safety and first aid.

Sounds like an urban legend to me. Dog shoots man.
Shotgun blast penetrates pickup trucks tailgate?
Only an idiot lays down a gun with a chambered round with the gun pointed in his direction.
If the story is true, it Darwin law weeding out the stupid from the gene pool.
