That's funny you should say that because someone told my friend that "I am Legend" was crap too, but I'll still watch it- on dvd of course.:)

I can easily get motion sickness and bouncy hand-held cameras make me queasy, so probably won't go.

Too bad, I'm a Godzilla fan.

The monster is not Godzilla.

And why all the bad reviews here? This movie was scary and original! Seriously.

I'll be the first to say it, Don't wast your money, wait for the DVD.

While I think it is worth seeing, it actually might work better on the small screen. Given the fact that the POV is from a consumer camcorder, that type of footage isn't usually blown up for the big screen.

I'll probably watch this again on DVD... some day.

The fact that I cant -stand- shaky rocky camera stuff notwithstanding.

Doh! is absolutely right. The characters themselves are -boring-, we learn nothing about their will or get to know them better along the path.

Its basically 'The 5 dumbest Manhattanites and a camera, with added monster."

Someone above said the camera was held by the 'idiot friend'....he was just -obviously- dumb, but this does not make the rest of the group any smarter. This point is proven when they go to the building next door and -push- the elevator button....

Boring....

A triumph of 'viral marketing'. Living proof that (some) people will go to the cinema or watch a television series for weeks and weeks just to see what will happen next.

Just my opinion.

This is one of movies that I'll watch after it goes through pay per view and is free on HBO or broadcast channels.

Like many, many movies' trailers these days there is absolutely nothing that stimulates the viewer to see more. In this case it's a bunch of incoherent film cuts and nothing more......

my husband and i both went and saw this on Friday night (the night it came out here in Kansas city) and we both really liked it, i have never gone to a move the night it came out but im really glad i did.
i liked it because it's not really what you think, i have saw a lot of monster moves and i thought it would be the same but i was wrong. plus the fact that you have no idea what the monster looks like really made me want to go see it, and the idea i had in my head of what it looks like was WAY different then what it turned out to look like.
it was a little hard in the beginning because the camera was all shaky but after the action started you did not really notice it.
i do think the ending could have been better but all in all i really liked it.
im glad i went to the theater to see this, at home on paper view would not have been the same(and i have a 63in tv.)

With that said, this movie will sorely disapoint.
My son and I are big fans of the japanese movie monsters, and as cheesey as they are, they are way more entertaining for the money.

The only really original thing about it was the POV of the movie.
But honestly, nothing, and I mean nothing, gave me any reason to care what was happening, or the people it was happeneing to.

Were the purposely trying to make a movie that is suppose to play off the fears of a Post 9/11 audience?

Yes, it was not Godzilla. It was something else that was suppose to "redefine the face of modern monster movies as we know it..."

Sorry, didn't do it for me.

I was aware that the monster was not Godzilla. When I stated I was a Godzilla fan, what I meant is that I like giant monster movies; most of all, I love Godzilla.

Guess I did not state it correctly.

I read in at least a couple of reviews that the movie showing the destruction of Manhattan was linked to people's post 9/11 fears and that the monster might reflect that fear of terrorism in the extreme. One reviewer actually wrote "is the Cloverfield monster actually Osama bin Laden?"

Just as an analysis of the original Japanese Godzilla movie (called Gojira) was a reflection of post Hiroshima.

We just got back from seeing it, and if I had to tell someone only one thing about it, that would be don't eat snacks during this movie. Especially not popcorn with a little too much artificial butter flavored grease on it, and especially not on a previously empty stomach.

I was feeling rather queasy at the end. :p

So, to clarify, do you actually SEE the monster? Does it make a highly visible and or lengthy appearance, or is it only brief glimpses?

I ask because my mother wants to see it, but only if you can REALLY, REALLY see the creature.

She loves "bad" monster/sci-fi movies and has some interest, but only if the monster can be seen.

Thanks

At first you only see glimpses of it, through the buildings, but then at the end you see it more in its entirety, however there is no very clear, head to tail, shot. There is smoke and still buildings, but you can get a pretty good idea of what it looks like.

Hey where's the pic of it??? How do I know what I'm getting for my hundred bucks (say if I had a hundred bucks to blow on a toy).

I guess they are still trying to figure out exactly what it looks like. lol
