Why no just carry a pistol grip 12ga in pump or semi auto wth slugs?Plus no special license required.

Several years ago one of the gun magazines had an article on single hand-held shotguns, ie., pistol-sized weapons. The writer had to go to the Philippines where they made them and were legal to sell. Needless to say they could hurt like hell to shoot.

Ithaca Auto Burglar

Ithaca Gun co.in the 1920-30's made a double barrel pistol shot gun called the Auto Burglar.It was available in 20ga,28ga,and 410 bore.Those who have handeled the 20 ga model say it was a real handfull.I used to carry a Mossberg 12ga. pump with pistol grip.With Federal 2oz magnum loads or 3"magnum slug loads it was not fun to shoot.And required a very firm hold of the forend.

Not to be pendantic but the actual model name is "Auto & Burglar". Real common typo.

Looks kinda like that pistol the English used in India for when a tiger trys to climb your elephant.

Here it is, it was called a Howdah and was the last line of defense when you were tiger hunting from the back of an elephant and the tiger decides to come join you.

600 N.E revolver

Somewhere in my on line travels I ran accross a Swiss tinkerer who had built a single action revolver in 600 N.E.The largest that I have actually handeled(did not Shoot)was a century arms single action revolver in 50-110;at the NRA convevtion in 89 at Orlando,FL.It weighted 7 1/4 lbs. as I recall.And watching the video of someone shooting it made realize it was more than I wanted to shoot.

Big Pistol 50-BMG

Some time ago while visiting the Soldier of Fortune Convention in Las Vegas we watched a demonstration of a 50 cal Browning Machine Gun bolt action pistol. It was stainless steel, massive bolt perhaps a 12-14 in barrel that ended with a muzzle brake that looked like something off of an anti tank gun.

I was maybe 60-75 feet from it (back and to the left) when the guy touched it off and the blast moved the clothes on my body! I do have to say i'd have loved to see it go off at night that would have been an awesome flame.

Zoologists at Oxford University fear that poaching and hunting of the largest male elephants, which also have the largest tusks, has changed the natural breeding behaviour of these animals. Their research has shown that the hunting of these large males for their ivory allows smaller males with shorter tusks to produce more calves. Over time the average tusk size decreases.

Iain Douglas Hamilton, from the conservation charity Save the Elephants and who was one of the authors of the study, said: "What appears to be the case is that average tusk sizes have decreased greatly since the mid-19th century. The data comes from the trade statistics and from records of hunters around Africa who find that large trophies are very much harder to find.

OK, how about something a little more mainstream? This is a FN M1908 that has a Chech 1926 acceptance stamp. Probably a WWII bring back. Nfty little gun in 25 ACP.

Then there's al;ways the other end of the scale. My Gramps gave me this back in '83. He got it through the CMP program back in '63. It was made originally in 1918 and was arsenal rebuilt using some WWII era parts. It is in unfired condition.

Then of course there is my main pheasant gun. Built by Bilby Hyde & Co. ca. 1810ish. 18 bore with damascus 33" barrels. Got my first double kill with this gun the first time I hunted with it. I hunt with 1 oz loads and shoot skeet with 5/8 oz loads. Handes just like a modern gun. English of course.

WOW!

Rooster, nice 1911! For the novices, that's another pre-A1, looks like a nice specimen other than the arsenal-refinishing. Long trigger, no angled cut in side behind trigger, flat mainspring housing at lower rear, wide hammer, small grip-safety tang at upper rear... it'd be a hammer-biter, but a good-looking one.
