Also, it's where we get a majority of our beef, milk, and cheese products... as well as the primary source for the rare-but-valuable Mad COW Disease. :D

Interesting side note... COW comes from the Indy film that takes place mostly in India. Spooky. Does that make COW e-holy ground?

OK, I'll shut up now.

The noble bovine also gives us the fine and long-wearing leather known as COWhide:

Definitely the best to learn ANYTHING you ever wanted to know about the Indy fedora. Though I'm still a relative noobie, I've learned a heck of lot from that forum. Dig a little while and you'll find out just about all you could ask for; maybe more than you can stand!!!lol

Regards, Andy

if you dare venture over to the COW, you'd better learn all their rules and adhere to the their 'search before you post' philosophy, 'cause they don't play! They will cyber spank you in a NY minute!

This pretty much goes for most forums.
I belong to some motorcycle forums that are MUCH worse.

But just in case, here is a link that I like to send folks to when they have questions regarding basic forum etiquette:

Well, now we know where Fredthecat should have posted his hat steamer thread! :p

But that tutorial does beg the question as to why it claims it is always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one. If that rule were followed you would have forums with no threads at all because there would be no existing threads to post to! Or you'd have threads with posts that have nothing to do with the original topic, kind of like the post I'm typing now.

Point taken. OK, I'll shut up now. :eusa_doh:

Cheers,
Tom

 So the real question remains... which came first, the post or the reply?

When someone sent me that link a while back, I was absolutely on the floor laughing my BEEP! off exactly for the reasons stated above, but I never dared "officially" post that link... :D

Fedora Lounge seems to be...

I've been told by knowledgeable folks that the FL was formed as an outgrowth of COW. Thanks to MK...

While I'm in NO position to pass judgement on the original COW community, I think it is fair to say that the FL is much more vibrant and diverse than the current COW.

The focus of COW is very narrow, so it wouldn't attract the broad spectrum of members that have crowded into the FL. In fact, the current COW could be absorbed as a section of the lounge. They also seem very focused on discussing the modern hat makers, rather than finding quality vintage hats from the golden years.

On the other hand, spending a few minutes at COW will give you a much better understanding of some of the lingo used on the FL, especially the threads discussing Indy hats.

OK... So, have I earned my degree in forum Anthropology, yet?

COW, like FL, has a number of subfora beyond the discussion of fedoras. Obviously the focus is on all things Indy, and it serves that niche very well.

Agreed...

My comments weren't intended to detract from the topics discussed on COW. I learned quite a bit reading through the sticky threads. Although many of the older photos have disappeared, it still provides a good bit of useful information.
