I have to agree with a lot of posters;
1. Get your foot accurately measured; it makes a huge difference.
2. Buy low and buy quality; they last longer and so do your feet. I've been in the comfort brands lately- Munro, Softwalk, Sofft, Naturalizer, Clarks, etc. They look a lot better than "comfort" brands used to, and a lot have a vintage look and low heel. They cost more, but take care of them and they will last.
3. One word - - INSOLIA---

WEll, I went to Shoe Pavillion this weekend and picked up 3 pairs of Grasshoppers! Gosh, I love the comfiness of this shoe. The Nantucket was on sale for $30 each and the other 2 styles I got were $20 each.

Oooooh, those Grasshopper shoes look so cute! Can you buy them online? I've never seen them in Australia.
I pretty much only wear ballet flats and canvas sneakers (I'm a fan of converse) because I have a bad back and heels tend to wreak havoc on my lower back. I've never tried Keds, although I like the look of them. I wish I could wear heels, I have a gorgeous pair of black satin peeptoes, but last time I wore them I couldn't sit down without being in excruciating pain for a week...*sigh*

Hi Ladies, I love the high heeled shoes but unfortunately i can't wear high heels due to a leg/back problem. What shoes that are flat would be good to wear with wide legs pants, skirts etc. I'm into the 40's/50's era and would love some help to choose some. Thanks.

Yeah, a low wedge sandal or slingback is probably your best bet. It'll look slightly dressy without being uncomfortable or unhealthy for your back.
