Gold grossgrain hat ribbon needed...

As some of you maybe aware, I'm doing a belt and braces job of transforming an old hat.

The grey original ribbon is just that...grey and boring and lost in the colour of the grey hat. I've never done anything like this (hat restoring) before and am having a ball with it!! and hopefully will breathe life into this old hat

So...can any kind souls out there help me with a vintage 'gold' coloured ribbon that would be enough to go around this 7 1/8 with some to spare to create the side bow? please? ....if so...PM me if you can as that would be GREAT.

I can probably help you, but as the kind Art Fawcett taught me, there are different kinds of grosgrain, and this will NOT be the slick finished grosgrain with the sealed finished ends that is common on men's hats. This will be the type of grosgrain that appears to have stripes, and the ends have uneven nubs.

If this is ok, I'll look through my stash and give you some options via pictures. Do you care about width? If yes, please post width required in inches if possible, vs. metric, unless metric gives a more accurate measurement.

Paddy, I think you should take up the kind Mr. Dalexs on his offer. His ribbon is much better suited to your hat than the ribbon that I was offering. And if I should find some ribbon that fits your sizing requirements, I'll still send it to you as a back up in case his doesn't work out.

Nope. Paddy, stick with the Gold iddea. I have a hat (Penney's Marathon, early 50s) that is in every way identical to the one you show above. It seriously needs a refurb, and i's going to send it to Optimo someday. It has a gold ribbon and it looks truly the canine's gonads.

Go with Gold!

My guess is that you're actually looking for Petersham ribbon. It looks a lot like grosgrain, but it's not a bound-edge ribbon. It stretches in a way that grograin can't (like around the brim of your hat). Try sewingcentral.com, they carry a large selection.

Yep, it looks like Petersham ribbon to me. It has loops at the end, rather than the bound edges on grosgrain, which means that it will smoothly fit around curves.
