I agree, the procedure was much easier than I would have guessed and the day before was much worse than I would have guessed. The sedative was great, I wish you get that over the counter.

I had a colonoscopy at the age of 30 since my great-grandmother had colon cancer. I will never, ever forget how horrible that stuff tasted that I had to drink the day before. I could barely choke it down. Next time, I'm demanding they give me pills to take - I don't care if I have to be in the bathroom the entire day!

I also had such a bad hunger headache that I actually got sick the night before. I was never so glad to eat food as I was after that test which thankfully, came out just fine.

I'm aware that also testicular cancer is males is something to be aware of as are the self checks. But I have no idea from what 'age' the probability of these types of cancers become a greater risk[huh]

Any ideas...? (as a number of males in my family have died or contracted cancer, eg: father and brother).

that since my father and grandfather both has issues with cancer (Dad - colon & lung, GF colon) that I should have started around the age of 40 for regular screening. Now that doesnt mean every year, but beginning the process & cycle earlier and maybe a little more frequently.

Fair point.

I had to start at age 40 as my dad had colon cancer. For most males they recommend starting at 50. 1 day of grief to potentially prevent cancer is not too much to ask.

Agreed. It's a small price of discomfort compared to gettting cancer.

I watched my Dad die at 64 from prostate cancer that spread to the rest of his body...........I dont have a problem with prostate exams, I get one and a PSA test every year. If you're over 50 you're stupid not to.

Dying of cancer is a lot less manly than getting a prostate exam.

Testicular cancer

Boy, isn't this just fun stuff?
Anyhoo, testicular cancer is a disease of YOUNG men. I believe Tom Green (whatever happened to Tom Green? I liked him . . .) was 28. He was in the shower and he felt a very strange lump. He did a good thing by videotaping the whole experience. It is HIGHLY survivable if treated in time, and HIGHLY FATAL if it's not. You only need one (testicle, that is), that's why God gave us an extra, just in case of God forbid whatever.

True that! I have an ex-boyfriend who had TC when he was 25 and survived it easily. He was the first in his 3-person family to get cancer. Later, his mother and his father were diagnosed with breast and prostate cancer within months of each other - both beat their battles.

All easily detectable and very treatable with early detection.

Strange timely coincidence...

My boss went in today to get a Stage-2 tumor removed from his prostate. The prognosis looks good. (It didn't spread.) This is a man with one of the largest egos I have ever encountered (and this is in a WDC-political career). He was humbled by this experience.

Gents: Don't be stupid fools. If you're over 40 get your PSA checked and your prostrate physically examined EVERY year. The difference between ignorance and life... is a 10 second rectal probe once a year. Buck it up boys. Buck it up.

Ah, but there's a caveat. Testicular cancer rates decline dramatically before 30, but rise again steeply in a fellow's 40's and thereafter. A gentleman I know got it at around 50, much to his dismay and surprise.

Dennis Wolfsburg (RIP) had a great skit about going for the one where they take pictures with some device that roughly sounds like a a sig moid oscopy,

His descriptions are hilarious.

They played it on the 5 o'clock funnies on KLOS about a week ago.

The exam I had was physically uncomfortable and I did feel like quoting Fletch lines to her.
The second time the doctor had been a customer of mine and even though it was physically less annoying but awkward none the less.
But I agree that it is better than having cancer and not knowing.

Sincerely,
The Wolf
