conditioner

Thanks, Josephine. Do the other ladies here use conditioner before a set (see above for exactl detail)? Like I said, I've got thick, wavy, non-bleached hair. I eagerly await your reply...

Yay! I finally have pictures to share with everyone! :D This is how I wore my hair to see Phantom of the Opera last week. I've since worn this hairstyle 3 times, and have received so many compliments for it!

It took me 2.5 hours and a lot of hairspray and bobbypins to get this right that night. But the times I've done it since I've been able to do it with about 4 pins per roll and a little bit of spray in about 15 mins. I'm so excited I finally managed to get it working

I followed the brilliant YouTube tutorial :D I have 2 victory rolls, with my hair parted to the side. My fringe has grown down to just past my eyes, and is longer at the sides. So I curled it backwards and then formed a curl/semi roll thing (hopefully you can see from the pictures) and then pinned it in place with one bobbypin. I then curled the rest of my hair with a 1 inch curling iron, letting it cool and then brushing it out. My hair is naturally wavy/curly and very thick! so the curling iron kept the wave in pretty well. But because of the layers in my hair (and that it's prone to frizz) I wasn't able to curl the rolls with the iron.

Let mw know what everyone thinks!

Hello ladies! Thanks to your advice, ~*Red*~, on the setting pattern thread, I got my hair to look lovely today! I was very proud.

Endpapers work wonders, as does not rolling all the way up to the scalp! Now if I could just get it to stay this way...

I did play with my wave clips today

And my hair wasn't properly dry so a lot of it went away. I did et some great waves towards the back of my head though (I only did one side - on purpose!!). I curled the front few bits using my curling iron, and it looked great before I went out into the wind. Apologies for the awful pics :)

I was so proud of this curl, then the wind ate it :(

My setting lotion goes all flaky when I comb it out too, doesn't look too great on black hair! Any tips??

I bobbed it!

Well, more drastic changes for me :) I love it! I had it bobbed Thursday night - this is set with hot sticks and a curling iron

today i experimented with rolls, which is generally my worst hairstyle due to my super-thin hair. i used black ankle-socks as rats, which made a HUGE difference! it was super-easy - i just sectioned off my front hair, folded a sock in half, pinned it to one side, teased my hair a little, smoothed it over the sock, and rolled and pinned the hair up top. i did this with both sides, and did a third, small roll with my bangs. i curled each section a bit before rolling to give it the right shape as my hair has very little bend to it naturally. i was really happy with how it turned out! i just braided the back and topped it off with a bow to hide any mistakes, but will curl it with hotsticks for tonight. :) it held up great, even with lindy hopping and running to catch the bus! and it made my head look heart-shaped!

the finished product:

pre-makeup, hair-smoothing, and braiding. you can see the rolls really well in this one. i don't think the bobby pins were as noticeable in real life.

one side of it, also before touching it up:

DollyDaydream... I wish I could wear my hair that short! You are adorable.

Short Clara... *in my best Joey Lawrence* Whoa! What a change! You look like a completely different person. I like it!

ShooShooBaby... Love the braids and the rolls! I wore my hair very similar yesterday, but I think your hair looks better!!

That's what I hate about ~*Red*~, the perfect way she can roll the back of her hair up. :rage:

lol <3

CherryLips... The top of my hair is actually two rolls fastened with bobby pins. There is a slight gap between the two rolls for the curls to fall into. :)

Maybe you will feel better to know that sometimes, the "Set" looks far better than the outcome. ;) and that's a fact!:D

thanks so much, everyone!!!

and since i'm sure i haven't taken up enough bandwidth with pics of my hair tonight, here's one from before i went out dancing tonight. i created the curls with hotsticks. sadly i didn't leave them in long enough, and most of the curl fell out in the dampness.
