Hello ladies!
I'm Serena and I'm currently living in Auckland New Zealand. I am originally from England and grew up between England and New Zealand.
My love of 1930s to 1950s style has just about taken over my wardrobe entirely (mostly reproduction pieces, but I do have a few cherished originals). I'm currently learning to knit and sew properly and have been busy knitting sweaters from vintage patterns
I also collect vintage china. I'm a huge fan of 1950s Midwinter Pottery and 1940s Royal Albert China - It all began when I was given a Royal Albert ‘Serena’ pattern plate from about 1945.

Another newbie checking in. I found this place via the ebay vintage clothing and accessories forum where I lurk regularly. I'm more of a 60s gal myself, but I've been reading through the Lounge archives all weekend with great interest and fascination. It seems like such a fun and informative place, and I haven't felt this inspired in a long while. This might just be what it takes to bring me out of the winter slumber I've fallen into of not putting much effort in... at least I hope so!

Okay so I'm Alexandra which I guess is stated by my highly original screen name. I'm 20, I found this forum by chance while googling to link someone to an example of the way I was wearing my hair that day.
My favourite time period is the 40's, my favourite year of those being 1942 for no real reason other than it just feels like it's the best. I've been fairly obsessed since childhood, mainly because I grew up around records and black and white movies instead of a walkman and cartoons.
I sing in a 40's inspired band which was originally going to be a Big Band but we're fairly fresh, so we don't really put the Big into Big Bands. I started dressing the part a few years ago by creating "1940's day" among my friends and then just carrying on with it.
So yeah, I'm new, but I catch on quick. I'm glad to see the two things I love combined together: internet and vintage. Oh the contradiction.

I've always been attracted to books and stories of the olden times, and the greatest compliment I've received to date was when a co-worker came up to me last fall, fingered my (surprisingly classy-looking) Forever 21-doing-60s coat lol and told me I was "as if from a fairytale".

I don't dress very "vintage" every day. But when I do, I love to do it all the way.

I believe I have never written about myself here. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark and study Art History. My special areas of interest right now are antique and medieval art, french 1700-century painting (Watteau, Fragonard, Boucher...) and photography. I read a lot, my favorite writer at the moment is Margaret Atwood, mostly her historical novels, I can warmly recommend her novel The Blind Assassin which takes place in 30's and 40's Canada. It has great clothing descriptions. I listen to jazz, classical, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos, Tom Waits and other such artists. And of course, I love movies, both old and new.
I love both vintage and modern clothing, so I mix and match. For me, the most scrumptious era is the 30's. I think it is very down played and elegant, and I find the very slim silhouette and muted colors appealing. But really, every decade has amazing momentums, and which decade I love the most also depends on my mood. 20's clothing is not very flattering on my body, but 20's fabrics are so amazing (I especially love the orientalist 20's styles), and the 40's and 50's silhouette is very flattering.
As mentioned above, my mood often dictates my era of preference. That is the lucky thing about living today and being able to look at the styles in retrospect. I am happy to live in 2008 and would not like to go back and live in to 20's or 30's or 40's. I would, however, love to go back for a short while, like on a vacation.
One of my dreams is to learn to sew, but I find it very time consuming. This is one of the things I hope to get better to by reading this amazing forum. I think all of the ladies here (as I mostly read The Powder Room and Beauty) are amazing and such an important inspiration for me. I've learned so much since I joined this forum last year, so thank you all!

hello hello. I,m brand new to this so here i go. i,ve always liked the golden era and while cleaning out some rooms at my late grandfathers house i came across a couple of hat boxs, opened them up and fell in love with a couple of portis hats. one was my grandfathers and one was my greatgrandfathers. while looking around the web i found the lounge. as for me im a widower with young daughter im trying to raise and teach the morals i grew up with. look forward to talking with everyone.Erna Flora

I have found this forum recently, while searching for some information on hats. And I have to say that this is the place I´ve been looking for! I am fascinated by the old times for quite a short time, but I think it is forever. I love old american cars, I love vintage clothes, I love this style and I don´t really like the world we live in nowadays - that´s why I ressurected the past.
I have noticed that there are not many users from Europe, especially from "eastern" block (well, Czech Republic is in the central Europe, but the recent history doesn´t say so). I hope I will be able to contribute by some photos of some vintage stuff I have found etc., maybe slightly different than the american style
From what I´ve read till now, I have to say that this is a really great and polite board, unlike many others. I am hlad I can be part of it.
(and for my english - I hope there are not many mistakes, there shouldn´t be, but if you find some, please be tolerant )

GwenLake - Yes! But it´s definitely not the best place for us, vintage style lovers. The 40´s and 50´s were not exactly the best years and it´s not easy to get some clothes (or anything) in good condition from the golden era...

Well I've been lurking for awhile so I might as well say hello.
I found this place while searching for info about reshaping an oilcloth hat that I wear a lot on the weekend, but have always loved the classic clothes, hats etc that are so popular around here. I have some old photos of my grandfathers when they were young and always thought the hats were very sharp. In fact I had a fedora for awhile when I was in college but got out of wearing them for years.
Recently I got a cheapo straw fedora and have been enjoying it, and just today got a vintage Stetson stingy brim fur felt fedora. I'm going to enjoy cleaning it up this weekend and maybe eventually reshape it somewhat.
I guess that was a little more than hello.

Hello Fedorea Lounge. I'm a Georgia lurker who finally decided to join in November 07. As you can see by my post count (11 or so at the time this was posted) I still passively enjoy the site.
The one thing that consistently draws me here, and to vintage clothing in general, are the men's suits. (sorry, fedoras don't do it for me right now. i feel i'm quite new to vintage) I enjoy reading all the great threads on FL, and it amazes me how many choices and options men's suiting once had. I think my interest in vintage started from modern classic clothing brands, and how they basically rip a lot of ideas from the 30's and 40's and such. I've also been frustrated at times because, knowing all of this, I've had to settle for suits from a certain Wearhouse that I absolutely hate, big ol' armholes and all. One day I hope to have better options and change all that.
