Those deco mannequin heads are truly amazing! They don't seem to have any auctions up at the moment though.

I am a complete hat virgin and truth be told, don't know an awful lot about them. I do love berets and wear them whenever I can (one of the reasons why I love colder weather!) but don't think any other type of hat suits me. Anyway here is my first vintage hat purchase so thought I'd share. It's a maroon felt cocktail hat apparently dating from the mid to late 50s and best of all it only cost me £5! I've got a similar coloured 40s dress so I'm hoping that they'll match.

I love that hat. My Mannequin head is just a styrofoam one I painted. There are usually some really nice ones on ebay though. I just haven't taken the plunge and purchased on yet.

This is my favorite--it has little cat ears that stick out on the front. But the rhinestones are sewn on & they fall off if you touch them, so I can't dust it. Can this be repaired anywhere? But I'd hate to go off & leave it with someone to be fixed.

The little wool mantilla/snood hat it is like Betty's--but mine fell apart when I washed it.

Miss Brill, have you tried asking around at a retirement home or senior center to find someone who worked as a milliner when she or he was young? I bet she/he could tell you how to safely clean and repair that rhinestone hat. Plus you would get to hear some great stories.

Saving that, could you use a soft paintbrush to dust off the hat?

Some New Hats!!!

I posted these over in the Hat section, but I know a lot of you don't venture over there, so here are a couple of new hats I've acquired:

This one my hubby got me for Christmas from Vintage Martini. It's a straw cloche from the 20s. It's been stored flat so there is a crease down the middle- one of the guys thought it was meant to be that way, so I guess it will stay.

This one I found at a local antique mall for $12! It is wool I believe and the crown is made out of lace, kinda like battenburg, but not exactly- not sure what it's called

This one I got a couple weeks ago at an Antique Elegance show here in town. It's in mint condition, and really cute
It's navy with silver studs

Texasgirl-You look great in every hat.

I think this is the only pic of me in a hat. I love hats,but as a hairstylist I rarely wear them to work. (An odd personal rule)
I've already sold the majority of my collection,but this is one of my favorites and I couldn't part with it.
