Yeah, I sometimes get the Blues Brothers, even though they didn't really influence my style. But in college I always get Inspecter Gadget (or Bob Saget, but that's because I look like him, not because of the hats). I mean, I watched Inspector Gadget growing up, and I liked it alot, and Don Adams is great, but I don't think it infulenced my style. I even get called Inspector Gadget wearing a wide brimmed black fedora, light grey DB, deco tie, silk scarf, and black fedora. Go figure.

OUR NAME

Okay, gentlemen, I have a proposal: we all want something simple, and some of us are put off by the word "stingy," so...

I propose that we call our group The Mischief. Nice, slightly mysterious, conjures up the Bad Behavior associated with the stingy brim (everything from early jazz to Sinatra). And PhD's will congratulate themselves when they dig up the rat reference. I would proudly call myself a card-carrying member of The Mischief.

Ayes, Nays? Speak now or forever hold your peace...

(And if we can agree upon this, I'll open a new thread with the proper title. This is crucial: an important historical tribe -- and we are! -- must have an appropriate name.)

Vis...You are the Big Daddy Rat here as far as I am concerned....being as how you statred the whole idea. So your vote carries the most weight. Now...with that said. The Mischief or The Mischief League (the "League" inclusion is a nod to your first idea) Both work for me and get my vote. You make the call and I am with ya

Excellent! So, the Underboss has weighed in. (Also a heavy vote.)

The Mischief, I prefer. We don't need another word.

More votes?

Hi all. Long-time retrophile, hat lover who's lurked for awhile. Some of you may know me from some other retro-lifestyle boards. Anyway, I love both stingy brims and their big brimmed cousins. I'm a stout guy, but I love stingy brims. As much as I love my bigger brims, I find I wear the smaller ones more often because I'm usually in pretty casual clothes.

Here's a recent pic or two of me semi-retro'd with a stingy lid. Lego Store in Chicago and Gold Coast Chicago.

Previously posted pics but a repeat just to keep the stingy thread going!

These are some great looking hats on here! I just got an old, used Stetson stingy brim and have a straw fedora that's a stingy as well.
I really like the Rat Pack but didn't get them for that reason, but because they remind me of some hats in pictures of my grandfathers. :)

Meanwhile, in my search, I also found this lovely quiz:

<a href="http://quizilla.com/users/moderndrunkard/quizzes/Which%20Rat%20Pack%20Member%20Are%20You">Which Rat Pack Member Are You?</a>

Note: I'm not suggesting that the Stingy Brim limits you to the culture of the sixties. Wikipedia points out that the original "Rat Pack," dating from the fifties, included Bogart (and was perhaps given that name by Lauren Bacall).

Interesting Quiz... I am named"Dean" after Dino, so I was happy to see that the quiz related me to my namesake. And I also love Stingy Brims... Have a whole collection of them.

OK, dudes beat this - 1 3/8 inch bound brim! Gotta be the smallest stingy brim on record!

Or am I being narrow minded?

What is a stingy? The reason I ask is because I always hear they are a 50's or60's thing. You can see them in silent movies back in the early 20's. Even Steven posted a pic of hat that looks like one worn in a Chic Sales silent movie back in the late 20's.
