Some cool stories on here. I've managed to meet a few well known folks - most recently (last night in fact) stand up Eddie Izzard. Met Tom Baker once at a signing - lovely guy, totally mad as a box of frogs. Leonard Nimoy.... that was quite an experience. Very nice man. Marky Ramone, Patrick Stewart (at the stage door last February, saw him playing Prospero in the RSC's London 2007 season production of The Tempest). Probably a whole bunch of other folks I can't think of off hand.....

Oh yeah, I met Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) who was a really nice guy, Kenny Baker (R2D2), Warwick Davies (Wickett the Ewok / Willow / one of the Harry Potter teachers) - Davies was signing a photo I then got framed for little brother for his birthday, and he gave me a bollocking for not knowing offhand exactly what age little bro was. I'm still not sure if it was a wind up or if he was for real!! Rolf Harris - he's adorable, totally genuine guy.

I met James Marsters at the Rocky Horror VH1 Celebrity Karaoke event in Las Vegas, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie, we had a long conversation before i twigged who it was (no English accent, dark hair - i didn't know it was Spike!!). Anthony Stewart Head a few times - really genuine, really nice guy. A whole bunch of folks who have been involved in Rocky Horror over the years - the best known of who would be Richard O'Brien, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn (Pat lives in London, I've seen her at a fair few events - mad as a hatter too, but great fun) and Tim Curry (when he was in Spamalot in the West End last year). Harvey Feirnstein was in Hairspray when I saw it - and a bit short with folks at the stage door. Nathan Lane ran out fvrom the producers and straight into a car, but his people did hand out a bunch of playbills he'd signed - and Matthew Broderick stood for a bit, nice guy - signed my Ferris Bueller DVD too. :) Boy George, when he was in Taboo, Julian Clary.... dunno if he's known in the US.

There've been a fair few others that would be known on TV over here, but not in the US, so I'll not go into that! heh.

Mr. Stewart was exceptionally pleasant, and spoke to me as if I were the only one there.
One of my favorite "hollywood" stories was told by Peter Bogdanovich on a tribute show. The two men had lunch a short time before Mr. Stewart's death. They were leaving a restaurant when a fan approached Mr. Stewart and sheepishly said something like "I'm so sorry to bother you Mr. Stewart but I just wanted to tell you how much your films have meant to me over the years...but I'm sure you've heard this a million times before and I'm sorry to bother you" and turned to leave. Mr. Stewart took the fan's hand (I believe it was a young man) and said "It means a great deal to me to hear you say that, thank you for taking the time to tell me". That story always touched me, what a class act.

Ditto. When I grow up, I want to be Bruce Campbell.

Bruce Campbell is a god among men.

I truly hope they do eventually make Evil Dead IV.

Can't wait to see Elvis and the She Vampires!

One of my great career ambitions is to someday spring "Bubba Ho Tep" on the big screen to a completely unsuspecting crowd. And I bet if we offered him a room at the Star Lite Motel and a suitcase of Pabst, Bruce Campbell himself would appear at the screening in person!

I hear they are making a prequel to Bubba Ho Tep called Bubba Nosferatu. I read that Bruce Campbell will not be involved in Bubba Nosferatu, but a search on the internet comes up with contradictory info. Does anyone know if he'll be in the movie or not? I also read that Paul Giamatti will be playing Colonel Parker.

I've also heard rumour that a third movie is being discussed - Bubba Sasquatch.

I'm sure he would. He's somebody I'd love to meet.... I'm on good terms with my local independent cinema (we do Rocky Horror there) and they're into offbeat stuff, I would love to talk them into doing an Evil Dead / Elvis / Bruce Campbell event and getting him to appear - if you could conicide it with a book promition tour, that would probably help. :)

I think it has a lot of mileage in it.... Elvis and the She Vampires (I think) was the title I heard, but I was gonig by my memory of what I saw on the end credits of Ho-Tep ("Elvis will return in...") - they may have changed it or I may have misremembered it. I had kinda assumed that was a bit of a joke, and a nod towards the franchise movies of the past - I think Bonds always used to say "James Bond will return in..." or simply "James Bond will return!" I was really pleased to hear that they are actually shooting a prequel. Everything I've heard about it cites Bruce Campbell as being involved. A third episode would be fantastic.

Might have posted this on another thread...

While on vacation in Paris a few years ago our tour group literally crashed into the Pirate of the Carribean 2 premiere. Me and then-boyfriend stuck around and saw Johnny Depp (who was almost attacked by Asian tourists) and Orlando Bloom (my impression was that he's pretty much how Extras portrayed him). I had my fingers crossed for Geoffrey Rusch (because he is MY Pirates crush lol) but no luck.

I've also seen Ben Stiller, who was in town filming The Marc Pease Experience, ate at the bar where Steve Bushcemi was knifed (wasn't there at the time, obviously), and seen Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton at the local Azalea festival. Finally, I had tickets to see John Waters (!!!) speak at my university, but they cancelled the lecture.

Edward, I cannot describe how envious I am! James Marsters! Tony Head! (I am a huge Buffy/Torchwood/Dr Who fan).

I saw John Malkovich recently. Mr. Malkovich has a house in Cambridge, MA. I was in a checkout line at a Whole Foods market in Cambridge and there was a woman in between Mr. Malkovich and me. This woman (who I didn't know) kept turning to me and squeeing in a perfectly audible stage whisper "Is that John Malkovich? I think that's John Malkovich! Do you think that's John Malkovich?!" I answered politely, while inwardly cringing a bit since I doubt this man is the type to want a fuss made. Mr. Malkovich paid his grocery bill and calmly turned and tapped the woman on the shoulder. When she faced him he held out his driver's license, smiled, took his bag and left the store. It was very cool. At that same store a couple of years ago I saw Yo Yo Ma, the cellist.

Yes, I've heard Mr. Malkovich is a tad quirky and also quite shy and soft spoken. My boyfriend ran into him someplace (Chez Henri, probably) some years ago and ended up having a drink and conversation with him at the bar. Sweet fellow, or so I've heard.

I'v met Sarah Silverman in person some time last year, I wasn't sure if it was her so I asked her. She was very nice to me and very giggly (I probably made her nervous). None the less it was a nice 15 second experience for me.

Back during labor day weekend of 1984. This was for the weekend break and I was in the Navy at the time on a bomber wing detachment to the Marine Corp base in Yuma Arizona. We were in a Casino in Vegas at about 2 AM, I think it was the Golden Nugget, but its been a while and I was a little bit lubricated with alcohol at the time. I sat down at the bar next to a guy and when I looked at him it was Alan King. We both had a couple of drinks and talked for a while. I think he was definitely more liberally lubricated than I was. I'm not sure where he went to but I caught back up with my Marine Corp buddy and we won enough playing roulette to pay for the weekend in Las Vegas and the rental car we drove there in. One thing about the conversation though, I don't remember a word of it. lol

sharing a steak

I was once invited to dine with Patricia Neal, who decided that she didn't want all her filet mignon, so she cut it in half and gave it to me...

Also met Petula Clark, Sir Cliff Richard, Dame Joan Sutherland, Richard Bonynge, Carlo Felice Cillario, Placido Domingo, Max Bygraves, and a whole host of other musicians.

But I'll never forget that steak with Patricia Neal!

I get very shy around people who aren't famous lol and have a tendency to get star struck so I've not many many people anyone would have heard of.

I have met a lot of people from bands and what not, the most famous I would say being The God of Hellfire himself, Arthur Brown. Oh and I met Richard O'Brien too.

I also have some very British sightings .. I saw Ted Rogers from 70's/80's gameshow 3,2,1, being chased down the dairy aisle in Waitrose by a woman lol And in the same supermarket bumped into the actor George A. Cooper (best known as the caretaker on Grange Hill, but who often pops up in British films of the fifties and sixties).

See, no one anyone will have heard of ;)

most of the celebs i've actually MET aren't celebs to anyone but my tiny little world when i was growing up, and it was all because my mom had connections to them through music. larry norman and annie herring, for example, were the big ones for me. know 'em? yeah, didn't think so. ;) fabulous, talented musicians...just by themselves...and wonderful, loving people.

when i was a really wee tot (those of you in the Pacific NW might remember him), i did meet Ramblin' Rod. lol

these days, i just catch familiar faces here and there around Portland.

i coulda sworn that i saw snoop dogg on the bus going home the other day. either that or the guy was a DEAD RINGER for him...same bone structure, facial hair, eyes...but no one else was looking at him or anything, so it could have been my post-work stupor playing games with me.

back in high school, jennifer love hewitt was in my town (Bend, Ore.) taping episodes of a short lived show called 'mckenna.' (1995 ot 96) eric close was in it, too, but i didn't meet him. anyway, j lo-hew frequently came to my high school with her tutor to attend a few classes. she's as sweet as she seems. or rather, she WAS...

my now step-sister went to prom with mario lopez. also in bend for taping that show.

last year i worked out with jared leto. lol. naw. i just saw him at my gym...this little tiny rocker dude amongst a lot of muscle heads. i was over in the cardio area...so i had a great view. he's TINY.

those are my encounters. whoop-de-doo.

My run-ins with celebrities have been just that--run-ins. I've stomped on Bob Hope toes, smashed into Liza, slammed into Patrick Swayze. I've also met Jackie Gleason, Jimmy Durante, Jane Wyman (after Reagan), Edward G. Robinson, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Ross Martin, Tommy Tune, Gildna Radner. The last few without incident.

20+ years ago I dated a gal who was the niece of Stevie Ray Vaughn's keyboard player. When one of their tours came through New York City (New York City!? :fedora: ), she got us in for free and we were ushered backstage to have dinner with the band. This was a year or so before Stevie was killed in the copter crash. While backstage, we were introduced to Klaus Kinski (scary boy, that one), Kenny G (why?), Carol Alt (oh my!) and Mark Messier. Now ... being a lifelong Flyers fan, meeting the most revered NY Ranger face to face was not the most pleasant experience. I happened to be wearing my personalized Flyers jersey at the time. :D We exchanged words ... he insulted me ... I insulted him ... and Miss Alt escorted him away from me while we glared at each other. He was twice my size and I didn't think about that until afterward. Ahh, the joys of being obsessed with hockey. Messier! :rage:

It was around that same year that I was also a witness to an accident caused by John Amos (of Good Times fame). He was racing down a rural road and didn't make a turn in time and sideswiped another driver. Nice guy though. Jumped out of the car to make sure the other guy was okay, exchanged info, shook our hands, etc.

Movie Star?

Being in Radio for thirty years I've met a ton of celebrities and would-be celebrities. I once started a list to put on this thread and decided it was too long and too egotistical sounding to include.

But I was reminded this week that I had met and interviewed Charleton Heston. I still have his autographed book in my little personal library.

I remember thinking that he was a man who really knew how to make a grand entrance. I asked him how his book signing tour was going and right out of the blue he says "Fine, but my a__ is getting tired."

Without missing a beat I replied "Well, maybe you're holding the pen the wrong way".

He waited for what seemed like forever, and then let out a huge, loud laugh.:p
