Calling Cards (name cards, not phone cards)

Decobelle - are people able to understand the meaning of the exchange name? While researching the history of my house I've found it has had the same phone number for some fifty years or more. It's part of the history of the house and I'd love to have it, exchange name and all, printed on my calling cards. I'm just worried that nobody will know what the hell to make of it.

I think calling cards are great. My wife and I have some with our names, phone numbers and email addresses. We don't put our physical address on it due to safety reasons.

And anyway, people have the concept of finding letters on the phone from those toll-free numbers with words in them. I think your idea sounds very cool.

A card that says something like FOrest 6-4287 shouldn't confuse people too much.

That's a good answer Joan! The people I usually give a card to are usually other 'vintage' people so they get it (I think). I did have to be sure to stress to the printer that the first two letters are meant to be in caps so they wouldn't think it was a typo. I like how it looks.

That works if your town is small enough that you don't have to dial the area code, but many places these days you have to know the area code to be able to dial a number. My town, fortunately, is small enough that I can still just dial the prefix and number, but I deal with so many people out of my prefix that I would end up constantly adding the area code anyway.

Mine went online after the '61 cutoff (cellular), so I'm going to have to pick one off the '55 list, though.

In that case, if you don't get many landline calls, it might be reasonable and not too expensive to have calls to your landline number forwarded to your mobile.

My business cards only have my cell # on them and I generally use them as calling cards. But this thread makes me tempted to get some calling cards with only my name, cell # and personal email address.

I work a lot in Asia/SE Asia and find a business card goes a long ways. Usually when I get into a country I get a sim card for my phone and if I will be there for more than a week or 2 then get about 100 or so cards made with that phone number on it. It has worked very well for me there. I have no idea how well it works in The States or UK though.

This thread inspired me to order some personal cards. I got some with just my name on the front. I put my cell #, email addy and home address on the back.

I also ordered some for my wife. Now she can be part of the soccer-mom crowd and will have "mommy cards" to be used for setting up play-dates and whatnot.

Any examples of recent cards? I'm looking to print some up. Now that I work for a printing company, it will be very cheap for me to do so.

My hubby and I have used calling cards for a long time. They are white with black printing and simply include our names, my cell number and a joint e-mail address that we share. Sometimes I have included a simple graphic, like this time it is an old style telephone, or a pin-up girl.

Folks really seem to like it, but I often have people tell me oh, i lost your card. They either really lost it or we're total losers and they don't want to contact us

the only card that ever really bothered me was the guy that handed out cards with the outline of FN FAL rifle, that guy was flat spookie

I've sold a few business cards of questionable taste in the last week that I've been here. I was amazed at a guy (a DJ/club promoter) who featured a woman's bum in a thong quite prominently on his card. [huh]

I'm torn between doing something really classic and simple like black text on a vellum card or having something a little more modern with full-color art. I was thinking of something involving a guy in a fedora or maybe a guy with a cigar. I dunno.

Here is mine. Its slightly unconventional, but I dont like a lot of info on the card that I dont write on myself if I meet someone. Its more personal that way and I find they remember me.

I have calling cards but more often I use personalized jotter cards to convey non-business info. You can have only your name or your entire contact info printed on the card. I doubt I could function without my jotter; it's like my memory.
