I don't really get that phrase. They aren't "messing with" your memories... you still have them. You also have the right to choose whether or not to see the movie. [huh]

Because the distribution/ownership rights are cheap and there's already a built-in viewing audience (ex. Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch)

If I owned the rights to something that hadn't aired in years, I guess I'd sell out [huh]. But I'm still trying to get automatic locks on my used Honda, so...lol

That's right and I won't be seeing that movie....

Land of the Lost is only Land of the Lost to me if I'm 9, in my Pj's, it's a saturday morning and I'm sitting on the floor with a bowl of cereal on my lap watching it on my Dad's old television! Oh, and it was scary at times too!

I can deal with TV shows being adapted to movies, but remakes just slay me full of sadness. Case in point: Hairspray (John Waters) v. Hairspray (starring the potentially evil John Travolta)

The way I see it, no matter if this were done a serious tribute or an all out farce its not going to be satisfying to people who grew up watching the original show. I feel the same way about the Spider-man - nice execution but my childhood memories a so much better.

The original Land of the Lost, cheesy as it may seem today in some respects, was a pretty important show for me. It was my introduction to the plot twist, time travel, the perils of jealousy, racism, revenge, obsession. The show were surprisingly well-written for children's show, and could be both whimsical and terrifying.

So, If I'm completely wrong and casting Will Ferrel is a genius against-type decision, and making it a comedy a sublime choice, then I'll gladly eat my words. If not, I have still have all three seasons of the original series on DVD and my original memories.

And that's exactly what I point out to the opponents of the Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition, Star Trek: Remastered, or anything else that "ruins childhood memories."

Really though, wasn't the 1991 series great, too? Maybe I'm biased because I grew up with it. [huh]

And this is my point about remakes.
Who care how good or bad a remake is. The original is there if you need it. With movies and tv series on dvd we can watch our generation's version any time.

Totally with Mary on this one. Usually I'd have a few comics scattered about too (such an avid little reader even then!).

I am like Mary, I have very fond memories of watching this show- one of my favorites!

I am wondering why everyone is assuming they are making it a comedy. Will Ferrell can do different things. Stranger than Fiction was awesome, one of my favorites.

It will be a comedy because Will Ferrell is in it.

I read that Stranger Than Fiction was his least successful movie in terms of $$s and public reception.
His current performances show him sticking to the niche he has carved for himself. It would be brave and creative of him to branch out and stretch his acting skills but I do not see that happening.

Thats it in a nut shell. YOU know people will see it weather it be good or bad JUST for that reason. That gamble is safe enough to take.

His best performance yet was in Winter Passing. He traded in his usual overacting, galumphing demeanour for subtle comedy as a dorky musician. I wish he'd do that sort of performance more, but I guess it isn't marketable...

The article said this would be a comedy. A missed opportunity here... but we'll see. I grew up with the remake SERIES of Land of the Lost and loved it. [huh]
