Greetings all...
I'm a gal from not-so-sunny (at the moment) melbourne, Australia. I'm 24 and a paralegal, although i'm attempting to do a masters anon. I'm interested in the 40s and 50s, even though my husband thinks i'm nuts...still, he was the one who went out and bought himself a morning suit, so who's nuts now....

I'm enjoying getting to know you all, and reading all the information you have shared.

Cheers
Elise

Hello hello, everyone!

Hi, ladies! I'm ever so excited to be here! The name is Leah, I'm 23, and from Indiana, with all the Midwestern charm (and perhaps social-awkwardness) that entails.

Fresh out of university with a BA in PR, the town's job market is such that employment in my field is difficult to attain. So, until my boyfriend/fiance/whatever graduates and we can run off to a bigger city, I'm earning my keep as a secretary in a funeral home. (Yes, my occupation is in itself a conversation piece!) I also blog quite a bit; the link is in my signature (Be warned, the language sometimes gets quite salty over there! I'm working on taming that tongue of mine.)

I've harbored a fascination for old-timey fashion basically since forever. I was obsessed with the Little House and Caddie Woodlawn books as a kid, and I have always enjoyed Judy Garland, since before I can remember. More recently I've developed a liking for such ladies as Gypsy Rose Lee, Clara Bow, Mary Pickford, Audrey Hepburn, and Patricia Neal (It's her voice. It kills me!). And, yeah, I love me some Dita too. Well, I'm a lady of many interests, honestly, but I really like the whole vintage aesthetic and want to learn more about it. Frankly, I'm a little rough around the edges and I hope y'all will be a good influence on me!

My current avatar is from my most recent Halloween costume. Both my home computer and my digital camera are on the fritz right now, so I don't have a whole lot in the way of remotely vintage-ish photos. Best I can muster for now is me with my sweetie at the USI homecoming dance (Just dancey, no kissy!):

Yes, well, anyway. *waves* Pleased to meet any and all of you, and especially wondering how many other Midwestern ladies are around?

Greetings. I found the Lounge by following a link from the Style Forum. It looks like there are people who frequent both forums, so it's nice to see a few familiar faces.

I don't own anything vintage but I appreciate the styles and I try to dress with a somewhat vintage flair. I work in an office that allows quite a bit of leeway in dress and I take advantage of that. I usually wear either a two- or three-piece suit to work, plus the accoutremonts such as cufflinks, collar bars, and suspenders. I'll post some pics in the WAYWT? thread to give an idea of what I mean.

I don't drink but if none of you mind I'll have a Shirley Temple to wet my whistle, and I may join some of you in the smoking lounge on occasion for a stogie.

Hello all!

Hey everyone,

I'm Tonya from San Diego and I absolutely love the lounge. I can't wait to post some pics and get more involved, but I'm in school for another week or so...busy time. I have always loved vintage and just recently got back in the "swing" of things. I'm mostly a 40's 50's girl and I am a whore for a good vintage suit! I have quite a few. I am a bartender and get some really interesting comments when I wear my vintage hats, dresses, and hair-do's. One drunk guy asked me if I was wearing a BRA on my HEAD! It was one of my favorite 30's hats and yes it was white, but no it did not in any way resemble a bra ;) I'll have to post a pic heehee. All I can say is some people don't appreciate style (he was wearing an abercrombie shirt after all...) Well, I also have a ton of stuff to sell once school lets out so now that i know I can post here, I'll give you gals a crack before I post on e-bay.

Thanks and nice to meet everyone!
Tonya

I just joined, after stumbling across the lounge while doing some research into hairstyles and patterns. I have dabbled in dressing vintage forever, but only recently have discovered 'my' era.

It seemed like a good idea to introduce myself right away, because I do have a tendency to just jump right in to the middle of a conversation. It's a character flaw, I like to pretend that I'm working on it.

I live in sunny Portland, Oregon which is just the best city ever. The architecture alone makes it worth living here, but then when you throw in the people it's no question that this is where I'm staying. My main squeeze and I enjoy attending theater events dressed to the nines; I have lost count of the number of double breasted suits he has asked me for, but can a man really have too many? That's like expecting me to stop buying shoes and handbags.

My current employment is replicating historic clothing, specifically 1905 through the war years. This branched out of another company which focuses on 1810-1924 and melded nicely with my other passion, which is recreating garments from iconic films.

There is just something about recreating and wearing clothes from these years that reminds me of my link to the past and the necessity to not loose the things that once were. I see history as a way to form the future, not as a separate entity to be studied.

And at the risk of proving my first point about talking too much, I will leave this at that. In any event, I look forward to getting to know new people who share my passion and will now tend to my Reisling.

*************

There is a minimum number of posts you need to make before you get the full priviledges I think it is either 15 or 25. Most of us on the guys side hit that by making small posts like:Nice Hat or Great Suit or cool car, something like that. Also there was a great computer meltdown for this site and they are still piecing together the functions so it may be a while until everything is totally back to normal.

When I was a kid, here in Australia every Saturday a guy called Bill Collins hosted "old" movies. My dad was out playing in a band most Saturday nights and mum and I stayed home and watched the movies. I fell in love with hollywood glamour; clothes, music, dancing, and gorgeous art deco sets. I
i love bill collins.. he was great... i still have him introducing 'the court jester' on video...lol

Hello, everyone! I've been here for not quite a week and have already introduced myself in the Powder Room, but not yet here. Lots of duplication, I'm at work and don't have the time to type a lot new:

Hello there! This looks like a lovely place to get information on vintage clothing styles, so I thought I'd join up.

At present I don't own any vintage suits myself :( , but I do have a love of all things Golden Era, especially three-piece suits.

Hello to all you lovely ladies! My name is Meg and I'm a university student in Brisbane Australia. I've been lurking around here for the longest time and since I now seem to spend more time procrastinating in the lounge than getting my work done, I thought I might as well finally register and join in the fun!

Hello from San Diego

Hello all.. I think I posted here when I first joined FL but then I went away for awhile (got too busy with work) and have just recently found my way back.

ah an intro thread.

I don't really have a story i guess. I got a trenchcoat early in high school and i figured i'd get a hat to cover up my curlyish hair since nothing else could be done with it. So i got a derby at villagehatshop i believe, then followed it up with a fedora. it became something of a running joke in high school, i eventually ended up getting a sort of dare to come to class in a fez so i wore a fez everyday through senior year. It was a catholic private school so we had uniforms, so wearing a hat and a coat was about the only way you could tell "who was who' or who belonged to what group etc.

Another thing was i always liked the 1930s' and 40s look, i always thought that from what i'd seen, people looked so much "cooler" back then, or more glamorous, or whatever, and i wondered why people had stopped wearing fedoras, fine suits, etc, and that style had become so.. well ugly. Plus that old fashioned look corresponded with an old fashioned mind set, and i'm often told i think like someone in his 80s (which i take as a compliment). But for me its more about formality and looking clean cut, you get treated better and get shown more respect when you're dressed in a respectful, gentlemanly way.

I'm going off on a tangent.

Hello Ladies

I have recently joined the Lounge because my boyfriend who has been doing re-enacting for about 12+ year and now has decided to get into AAF impressions. Since this is his passion I have decided to tag along with him learning new things about the WW2 era. I have always loved pin up girls but helping him with AAF at Warbird shows I have a new love for Nose art and learning about all the brave women who worked to keep the war effort moving.
Right now I am currently in the process of putting together a Sweetheart at home look. Meaning I am learning about the styles, the hair and the make up.
I would love any advice on where I could find great shoes that are period correct and are comfortable since we will be going to USO dances.
Any advice will be welcomed.
