Indiana Jones Grey Hat

lol

I have really come to like the look of a good, rich cognac-brown leather shoe with a navy suit, though personally I really dislike the City trend here in London, seen over the past couple of years, where a very light tan is worn with navy.

Now I know I should have bookmarked the site when I found it but, I didn't.

There are a bunch of sites selling licensed indy hats, VHS is one of them but, I think even the limited edition $495 versions are still made by doorfman & pacific are they not?

I came across a hat site that touted they were the designer of the hat used in the current movie, while they did not call it an Indy hat, probably due to license issues, anyone know that site?

If you can't post a link in the thread, could you PM me?

OK, I know it's not to everybody's taste, but I like a feather on my hats.
And I just ordered a Fed4 moonstone. What colour feather would complement it best in your opinion? Or is this off topic?

A little ot, but hey.... the Fed was inspired by Dr Jones, so..... ;) I ended up with a small peacock feather at a recent burlesque performance I attended; I wore it in my buttonhole the rest of the evening, but it would look superb in a hat if feathers are your thing. Not to mention the symbolism if you're a bit of a dandy (or - if memory serves - something of a vampire buff).

This just came, today. It's a 1984 Stetson Indiana Jones fur felt, in grey.

The seller described it as grey, but in his pictures it looked brown. No doubt about it, though. It's definitely grey!

Probably not screen accurate (from any of the movies). It has quite a bit of upturn on the sides, and the front pinch is not a "tight" one.

However, I don't have another hat that looks quite like it, so I'll probably leave it as is (at least for now).

Does the grey IJ hat have a centre dent or a teardrop crown? I know the brown one has a centre dent, but there are no good shots of the grey hat from above. Could anyone who owns one tell me?

That's the Stetson version which is now called the Temple and was once called the Ark.

They still make the hand and it comes blocked with a center dent. The current licensed offerings that are allowed to use the Indiana Jones name are from Dorfman Pacific and have an even lower more tapered crown and come with a teardrop crease.

I'm still looking to see some of Art's greys... and I think I might go for a dark grey ribbon rather than black if I do it... caries the light better.

Hi,

There are two versions of grey Indy hat, the one from Raiders and the one from Crystal Skull.

The first one appears in two short sequences. It has the same crease as the brown hat, a centerdent, tight and fairly long front pinch. I am not sure if it has the "turn", too.

The second one appears (comparatively) more extensively. Again, it has the same characteristics as the brown one in that film, which is a centerdent, with a not so tight and not so long front pinch as the Raiders. Certainly no "turn"; that feature did not appear again after the first film. I seem to recall the grey one is half an inch taller than the brown one, in this case.

Possibly other, more knowledgeable Indy fans here may add more info.

Regards!

I think the Akubra Fed IV Deluxe in moonstone does a pretty creditable job for the money:

The bow could be tighter, I'm purposely not doing the tight front "Indy" pinch, and the brim is not precisely contoured the same on the side, but the proportions and color look good and with a little more fastidious shaping it could come pretty close.

I do love yours IV Johnny. How's it wearing?

Actually, if the Fed III had a higher crown I think it would be a better choice.

But, if I'm not wrong, the Fed III does have a taller crown, it being 6'', while Fed IV is 5 1/2''?

I believe the grey hat in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the movie the image belongs to, is 6''?

Regards!
