Grabbed a Champ from OFAS, it was actually a local woman that had it:

Not in bad shape! There were a few small indentations that I steamed out, and the sweat has a few small crack lines in it, but decent for $15 I thought.

Another Art!!!

I picked up my new Art today at the Post Office. Words don't adequately describe it so......

Very nice, i like the color of the ribbon with the hat. What width is the brim?

If I am measuring it correctly, 2 5/8" front and back. 2 3/8" on the sides. Art can correct me because he will know for sure.

First let me say as introduction that I was very pleasantly surprised when I discovered this forum. A home away from home and am looking forward to a long and happy relationship.

Now, MD11, I really like your new panama. Can you tell me where you purchased and what style? Although not new to buying on the web, I have experenced some less than satisfactory hat purchases. Thank you very much.

Nolan, Welcome aboard... this is a great place indeed.

I got it form Brent Black (www.brentblack.com) who is among a few really good and reputable hat sellers. There are two or three on this forum as well including Panama Bob, but I have no experience with him; others however do and like his product as well.

Brent Black tends to be pricy, but he claims to have the best quality and I decided to believe him. I can honestly say, I am not disappointed in my hat. The style is called the Gatsby Fedora, you can see it on his site. The price point I went with is $1000, which is sort of in the mid range of what he sells.

Best of luck.

Stetson 3X Suede Finish

I bought this some time ago, but it took me awhile to get it where I wanted it, or close to that, at least.

I didn't quite know what to expect when I won this hat. I was amazed when it arrived. The felt was like nothing I had ever encountered. I guess it must be kind of like how folks always describe the great old Borsos. It's amazingly soft... almost too soft, very supple, but does hold a shape pretty well.

There were issues, though. The hat was a bit soiled, and the ribbon wasn't really a ribbon at all. It was more like a belt, made from the same felt that was used for the hat body. I didn't like it.

So, I gave it a Coleman fule soak, a water bath, a little stretching, and then recently, a new ribbon. This was the first time I completely re-did a ribbon and bow. I'm fairly pleased with the results. It looks good from a distance, at least.

As I mentioned earlier, this hat is really soft. The brim is a little floppy, but I like it. It's really unlike anything else in my collection, and extremely comfortable.

The new ribbon is okay, but I'm sorry to see the self-felt ribbon go.
It's a classic Stetson style, but apparently an acquired taste.

Oy... have I inadvertantly performed a surgery akin to the infamous "dehomburgectomy"?

Never fear, the felt belt is sitting here in a box, ready for the next owner, should he want to put it back.
