I did this one, last year, after seeing Buster Keaton in one of the "Beach Party" movies. (The hat was a Resistol fedora, with some moth damage and a split sweatband.)

I like the "Buster" vibe, J.T.! My Stephen L. Stetson pork pie arrived today and after a quick cleaning, here it is...

Not bad for $16.50!

Some of those Stephen L. Stetsons had a really interesting disclaimer printed in the liner. It was the result of a law suit filed by John B. Stetson Co. Does yours have it?

lol Yes, it does. However the felt is in much better condition than the liner so I have removed it. It wasn't stitched in so it was just a matter of pulling it out. I am pretty happy with this hat for the price. I had read here that the Stephen Stetson felt wasn't that great but I have no complaints. It's not as soft as some of my other vintage hats but it's definitely thick and sturdy.

This pork pie is the first I have owned that was actually blocked as a pork pie. All of my others in this style were hand shaped by me.

I guess the definition of a Porkpie hat is the in shape of the crown. It's just a round crown with no pinch and a flat top. Typically they have a stingy brim (under 2 inches) but wider brims are out there. If anyone can expand this definition please expound!

Stetson Gun Club

This one just arrived, I gave it a little "rake" when it arrived. (I believe that is the correct term.)

This is dark brown. It is a very BOSS hat. Garners exclamations of joy wherever I go.

Yeah! That's awesome.

GWD, I really like your Gun Club, too!

I just posted this in the Art Fawcett Hall of Fame but I figured I'd throw it in here as well...

Introducing my new VS stingy brim porkpie. It is styled after the "Uptown" but since I live in the south suburbs of Chicago, I have dubbed it "The Southtown".This is my first hat from Art but it won't be my last. Everything I have read about his work is dead on and I am very impressed with his attention to detail and overall skill as a hatter. Simply put, this is now the best hat in my collection and I am proud to own and wear it! In fact, I am already saving my pennies for another in Pecan!

Featherweight Granite
Open Crown: 5 3/4"
Brim: 2"

Hi,

When the weather outside is a bit sunnier, I'll have to post some pictures of my porkpies in actual use to add to this thread. :)

For now, though, I'm just wondering if folks are aware that Buster Keaton's account of how he developed his style of porkpie is online. It doesn't look like the Lounge allows the kind of word search that would find any posts mentioning it, unfortunately. So my apologies if I'm the last person here to know of its existence.

Here's the link: http://www.busterkeaton.com/howto.htm

Cheers,
Mark
