Panama Brim Issue

Panama wearers, I have a Panama Bob hat that is wonderful, however, in even a slight headwind the brim flips up. It looks goofy, and I am always walking around with my hand up to the brim to keep it down.

Is this just a characteristic of light, flexible Panamas or is there something I can do to fix the problem. My 2 Cuencas from Bob (which are also great) are a little stiffer and don't flip up in the wind.

Do I just have to get used this or is there a solution?

Thanks very much,

Robert

I've just gotten used to it myself. I wouldn't want to add any stiffener even if it was a safe practice. It'll be interesting to read responses from others who are bothered by 'Flippy Brim Syndrome' but so far, I've just been glad to have such supple straws in my collection. When the wind lets up they look great!

I have four of Panama Bobs hats.:) My brim does the same thing and I get some good wind where I live in CA. I don't mind that it flutters in the wind, I just tilt my head slightly to one side and down at that takes care of it for me.

Also when it does flutter it just reminds me that I have a great Panama Hat that is pliable and that it was at a great price.

Hats are like potato chips you just can't have one. :D

Dear Robert,

If you are fed up with your floppy Fine Montecristo from Robert just let me know and I can immediately trade my nice stiff Cuenca for it:D :D :D

Actually, a cuenca is not always a stiff hat. I have a cuenca, which I acquired from PanamaBob that is as supple and flexible as any montecristi. That being said you can find some cuencas that are very stiff. I have found that with a stiffer brim your chance of the hat flying off in a wind gust increase.

Thanks for the insight

It looks like I better get used to it. It has been a great hat for over 2 years, and I have an itch to talk to Bob again. I wear hats every day and get more compliments on my Panama than any other hat.

Thanks,

Robert
