Adventurer felt...

Now that many of us have had the Adventurer (old style) for awhile...has anyone come across an Akubra with same kind of soft felt this one has?...I have a few Akubra's and none are like the adventure. What say you?...or should I start a new thread on this search for a (slightly) floppy Akubra?

Due to it's soft quality I always recommend the Sydney for long ovals. It's so soft it rarely needs adjusting. ;)

Overhaul

I just spruced up my Adventurer last week ( new creases, brim flange...). I think I got...NO, I definatetly got carried away with the IJ look. It looks pretty cool though:

Got some discoloration due to being in sort of an abusive relationship, but we just call it character when people ask.

I've enjoyed my Adventurer a lot, its the hat I have on in my avatar.
I have not come across a hat with the same "feel" to it either. I usually get comments when I wear this one, its hard not to notice I guess. (Its the most "Indy" hat I have so that probably has something to do with it, too).

I believe the Sydney is the same as the fedora on Hatsdirect. The Adventurer we all purchased was from a place in Pa. Then a "new" adventurer popped up at David Morgan...It would have been nice to name that one the Adventurer II...

I wish they would come out with a different color besides brown for the "Adventurer". I'd buy another because I like the brown one so much.
These are really good hats.:)

Just to clarify: there are TWO "Akubra Adventurers." They are totally different models. This thread was started quite a while ago about the old one, but at some point it began to be about the newer, Indyesque model from David Morgan.

Sorry for the confusion. I'd like to find a similar Akubra like the original Adventurer. Maybe in different colors...it's a great hat!:)

Here I am wearing my Adventurer with my good friend Gordon West at the Dayton Hamvention, the largest amateur radio convention in the world. Gordon is arguable the world's best known ham radio educator. This was taken May '08

I'll try a better shot later on, but my photographer is gone at the moment. Here's a quick 'Douglas', though:

Forgive me fore bringing this very old post back to life. I really like the Akubra Adventurer pictured here and it appears to be different, and confused, with the Federation. Is this one still available? I like it better than the fed and when I read through the thread it appears this thread has become a combination of the fed and the adventurer due to some confusion. Anyway, I like the one pictured better due to the slight taper in the crown. Anyone have any info?

Yes there are indeed two Adventurers. The one sold by David Morgan is sort of a wider brimmed Federation. The Adventurer with the taper (which is a totally different hat) is sold through Everything Australian. There is a 3 month wait on hats from there though. I'm trying to decide whether to order that one or the David Morgan Sydney since both come in Regency Fawn. Good luck on your choice.

Nice Adventurers, everyone! Cool name for a hat... you know, my own Federation IV is actually almost exactly like an Adventurer in terms of taper and stuff, but not crown height or brim width. I think with a Fed IV, it's definitely possible to achieve the Adventurer look by wetting the hat and letting it taper in a bit. The crown height may even shrink though. I found out about all this through my year of rough wearing with it.

Do you have an Adventurer?
