Looks good, though I must tell you a couple of years ago I got this Miller:

from the "genuine Panama" collection. I thought "great a lovely faux patina with great proportions". It may have been genuine, I dunno, but it was genuinely stiff as a wicker trunk from Pier 1! Whatever it was they used to color it (I guess) rendered it about as unlike anything I think of as a panama, a real disappointment ...that said RBH loves his.

True Rick... but I have changed my mind on the dark one.
I love the shape, brim width, and most of all the color.
BUT I have come to dislike the stiffness.
I dont mind saying that I have changed my mind on this but also I do say I love that color, may be why I like the PB straw so well.
I also have a Logan in the bleached color and it was not at all stiff [but was almost white at the time. now a creamy color] I LOVE THE BLEACHED and would consider getting another .
I replaced the ribbon with a thin ribbon and do wear it all the time in the summer. It has held up very well.
Here is a couple of shots of it from last summer.

As as side note I also wore this hat in Mexico this past Jan. I packed it in the suitcase and it was none the worse for wear.{ I wore my Adventurebilt down there] My in-laws have some photos but I do not have any of them yet.
I will try to post a few of them when I can.

Agreed! Everything else is just right about this line. I have always wondered if the bleached models lacked the stiffness in the colored ones. I have a bleached Biltmore that looks much like this & is my summer daily beater.
I also have a Christies & a Borsalino w/ a similar (brown/tan) color that are soft & supple as a proper Panama should be... go figure!
I love the thin ribbon, BTW, what a great summer hat!

Anyone tried this hat?

Sorry to bump this thread back up top, but has anyone actually tried this dark 'gaucho' color Clifton hat from Bailey? Is it stiff and like wicker, as one of the older posts says about dyed straw? OR is the feel more like a typical Panama? Just wondering...

Adding to the queries (because I too love the shape):

(1) Does it have a leather sweatband?

(2) Can someone say whether there's any way to de-stiffen it without wrecking it? Like alcohol, or steam, or gamma rays?

Yes, PanamaBob has been listing dark-toned Cuenca hats on EBay in a couple of different blocked shapes - but none so far is finished in a traditional 'outback' style like this Bailey Clifton.

I am still curious to know if anyone here has seen or tried this one on ...

I shoulda gone for the avacado crown! DUH! Ours aren't hard, have leather, and they don't cost $74.95 even with shipping! I'm going to quick order some up in that crown, though.

I've not seen them on his website but you can find them in eBay, PB lists under (I beleive) "panama hatworks of Montecristi".

This is what got me started thinking about a new ribbon for my brown Panama Hat.

I'll start this off. Not exactly new as I got it for myself for Christmas, but it's likely to be the last new hat I get for a while.

The Dusty Rose. By Art Fawcett.

Then I came up with this. This is my first attempt at putting a new ribbon on any hat. I still need a lot more practice.
