Ok being that it is Flag Day I went to get one of mime to fly in front of the house. They are getting a bit faded. My wife said, "I saw a box in the closet of a new flag. Why don't you use that?"

Puzzled I looked in there to thinking to find
th_waving_us_flag.gif

and instead found
flgrebel.gif

I opened it up telling her, "yeah this one might cause quite a stir, hon!"

The flag was a gift and had been flown over the S.C. capitol building.

We got a kick out of the mix up but  as usual only one other house has a flag displayed. This part of what ticks folks off who live in multi-cultural neighborhoods.:(

In our community local groups place flags at your house on key holidays for a token subsciption: as a fundraiser. I am noticing that my flag was placed very early this morning: in addition to many other homes in the neighborhood.

We live in a 100 year old three story home and a flag pole would look great. I really want a good quality flag pole, someday, that I can display, both, the American and Kansas flag--daily. One thing I really like about the Golden Era is the work ethic, value system and patriotism. Along, of course, with the style and arts.

Better, I should think, to find (let alone fly!) a Confederate flag than, say, a Nazi flag brought back to the US by a returning sergeant after WWII...

That's in the attic, and he was a private. ;)
Ah, I see that I'm not the only one with a strange assortment of stuff brought back. My grandfather somehow managed to come home with that, a handful of German medals (they don't all appear to be Nazi-specific) and a CZ-38 pistol.

It's in a dresser drawer, and suffice it to say, it is most certainly not being flown today.

In my neighborhood it is unlikey a Confederate battle flag would even be noticed for what it is. That's what I meant by multi-cultural neighborhoods. It's red, white and blue so....:eusa_doh: :)

Boy, isn't that the truth!!! In some neighborhoods the real American flag would go unnoticed. Today, we had about 20 American flags flying in our neighborhood; still only about 40 percent of the houses. Not bad. But not good enough! John

I don't understand why anyone really cares about flags in general. Especially the furore when flags get burnt.

We kinda beat that topic into the ground last month. Here's the link.

Suffice it to say that it's primarily a US thing. People in most other countries don't seem to get it.

Regards,
Tom

My neighborhood is one of the most culturally diverse in the world, let alone the US. There is a heavy Latino presence in the area - so there were plenty of red white & blue flags still on display as my wife and I rode our bikes around - but they were still out following the Puerto Rican Day parade last weekend!!lol

I know what you mean about that type of neighborhood having its own observations - or lack thereof. You can drive down the nearest main street on Christmas Morning, New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving and so forth, and all the stores are pretty much open as if it were any other day.

I have on occasion benefited from this - I once bought a piece of vintage, top brand name musical equipment super cheap at a local store, and resold it on ebay for about a 75% profit. I had seen it in the store window for months, couldn't believe no one had snatched it up, finally caved and went in to inquire and had to clench my teeth to keep jaw from dropping when I heard the laughable asking price....no, there was no catch.lol
