Hello all.

I have a Cuenca fedora purchased from Brent Black in size 7 1/8.
I've had it a few years now but don't wear it much as my noggin is 7 3/8.

Question of the day:
Can this be successfully resized to fit or shall I chock it up to experience?

Thanks for your input.

Hey Rikrdo -

I dunno about stretching a straw hat up two sizes. I've successfully worked up straws one size AND I've blown out a sweatband on one during the process. IF you are going to have success with this, I think you'll have to remove and ultimately replace the sweat with a larger one after dampening the hat body and carefully working it up in size. NOTE: This is all amateur advice and may not be the best way - just what I think I'd try.

G'luck!

I would send it off to have it re blocked and resized, Oh yeah and a new sweatband too, that fits of course. Overall the lowest price option to make this hat one that you will wear quite often. Definitely cheaper than buying a new one and the result will be a USA blocked perfect fit panama..Hmmmm

Thanks fellas.

I am waaaaaaaay too lame to fix this myself. Just needed to know if it was possible for a pro to bring it up to size or not.
It was a present from my darling Mother a few years back and I'd really like to keep it

sorry all you 7 1/8 'ers out there

Spritz the sweatband and the area around it. Get it damn good and wet and put it on your head. Gradually work it till it works for you. Just don't rip it.

Really ?????

How many spritzes and stretches do you think itll take to sprawl out ??
Could I lather with Lexol instead of water and then put it on ??

You may wish to treat the leather with lexol first and then just wet the straw, with some water. Wear it for the day. Repeat as necessary. It's a good idea to treat that leather first.

I have a vintage ADAM that had shrunk some, over the years. I just used a saturated rag to go around the outside of the felt on it, near the sweatband, and wore it for the day. If I remember correctly, it took a couple times but eventually it came round to my size.

OK.
Done.

Treated the band with Lexol and then sprayed the straw with water.
I wore the hat for about 3 hours while watching the British Open the other day and the hat really started to fit much better.

Oh.
The fact that I had just gotten my ears lowered, the day before, seemed to help some too. ;)
