I have a vintage stetson milan.. but the stetson tag on the inside top of the hat has fallen off. I believe it was glued originally.. does anyone know how I can reattach this? Somehow, Elmer's doesn't seem like it will do it. [huh]

A hot glue gun would work.

And now ---- back to the hats!

Stetson Hempstead - contemporary, unlined, pretty stiff, nice C-crown with 2-3/8" brim (my best size) - I've since cleaned the minor sweat staining on the ribbon, which is 5/8" wide with brown stripes on white...

Just picked up a "vintage" 1960's Milan Bonar-Phelps off of OFAS. Don't think it was ever worn. And yes, I will post some pics. Just wanted to say I love those Milans.

Vintage Stetson

My first vintage lid.. and it happens to be a Milan.

The straw is in excellent shape for it's age.. which I'm guessing to be from the late 50's early 60's.. but I'm no expert.

Do any of the vintage milans still have that straw smell? The Optimo I've got is like my panama - it has a really distinctive smell. While the panama smells like sulfer, the milan has a really fresh straw smell. If the vintage milans don't smell, I wonder if blocking would bring the smell back.

This was my favorite hat. It was too big for me and I ended up selling it to Rikrdo. Vintage Stetson too.

I really want another one like this. I may have to order a custom.

Here is my "new" Dobbs Milan I got just two days ago. It fits well, and the gray and blue colors go well with my complexion and clothing. This is my first vintage milan, and I really like it!

New hat - Faux Joe

I recently received my new Joe Fedora from noggintops. It's a woven polypro hat, with a pseudo Milan weave. It's foldable and impervious to water. I have a Riverz Delta by the same maker, which is my kayaking hat - useful, but not a stylish item. I bought the Joe for hiking and travel, and because it looks something like my Stetson Hempstead Milan which I like a lot, but don't want to get wet. The polypro can be dunked in soapy water, rinsed, whatever so should be good in the woods.

Specs: 2-3/4 brim, 4" crown in the front, 3-3/4" in the back, coolmax fabric sweatband, 1" brown ribbon with a buckle for size adjustment, a windcord that folds up over the back of the brim and clips to a ring under the ribbon. The hat feels a little stretchy, almost fabric-like, and the brim isn't stiff (I guess to make it foldable), although it does snap down in front. It doesn't feel plasticy on my head, and is cooler than my straw. So far I think it looks pretty good. I'm going hiking soon, which usually means rain, so I'll report on how it functions. I'm looking forward to hiking with some style.

Umm.. do these milan fedoras have same comfort as Panamas when worn during warm days?

Is it also crush-proof? Well, of course not including a severe abuse, but if it's simply accidentally crushed, or pressed, dented, can it be restored back easily to its original shape? Yeah, just like our fur felt fedora, though not exactly crushable but as along as it's not a complete destruction it can always be restored to its original shape.

I mean not just the specifically foldable fedora as mentioned by carldelo, but also other milan.

My Stetson Milan is quite stiff. If you crushed it, I think it would be destroyed, but it is pretty strong. It is also a fairly hot hat - the polypro hat I just got feels much cooler. I don't have a Panama, so can't compare them directly, but they look cooler FWIW.

Milan Futbol!

Here is my vintage Dobbs Milan 5th ave. which started out it's life in Birmingham, Alabama (store name Odum Bowers and White) now leading soccer practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! Any idea on the age? I got it last fall through ebay.
Look how attentive the children look! Must be the hat!
