Question About a Little Loop

Hi all and hope you can help me with this. I recently purchased a 50's era (I think) dress from Hatfeathers (great service too, btw!) and I have a question about an odd little loop at the center front waist.

As you can see, the dress has a self-fabric belt and there is a little loop that presumably helps the belt remain at the waistline (which is actually above my natural waist - probably boob related but still looks fine - makes my hips look smaller actually). The thing is, there is no corresponding hook or button or anything on the belt and no lingering sewing holes where something might have once been. Can any of you help me figure out what to put on the belt to work with the loop?

I could always make thread belt loops on the side, but I might as well figure out what that loop is for :)

The loop is for the buckle to fit in as you fasten your belt so the belt wont twist.
There is actually discussion in General attire on such a feature on mens trousers.

Thanks Lady Day - It didn't occur to me to check out men's pants and I hadn't seen this on any previous dressed I've owned.

I'll go see if I can find it.

yep the metal thingy on the buckle, cute dress BTW, love the sleeves

Thanks Lady Eel! I liked it from the moment I saw it and it's not even a color I usually wear but I like it. The size was right and the price was good too.

I couldn't find the post/thread Lady Day mentioned above, but I went and gave the belt and loop a try and after a serious DOH! moment, it made sense. I think I need more coffee.

I also think it still needs some thread belt loops on the side. Time to search my stash for ivory buttonhole twist :)

Thanks again, Lady Day - that picture would have saved my own :eusa_doh: moment!!

It all seems so simple when someone 'splains it to ya!! Now I can wear my dress ...um, after I press it. I already recovered new shoulder pads for it with the original shoulder pad fabric and resewed the button and snaps in a more tidy manner (hello, OCD!).
