Not especially, your obvious Levi's and Justin Boots, etc, but apart from that just a general image of reliable quality, although we knew for example that Sear's was not top notch...much the same as I know the difference in English brands between Turnbull&Asser and Marks&Spencer...

Indeed! They were the goofiest little "toy cars" I'd ever seen (up until then). It should be noted that during that same era, just about 1 out of 25 cars that you'd see on the roadway was a Volkswagen bug, from various years. Nowadays, Hondas and Toyotas from various years are the 1 in 25. ;)
